April 1998:
RPAC and Viñoly unveil the Center's design to the
press and public
· · ·
Viñoly's innovative design treats as free-standing
buildings the two main performance venues -- a 2,500-seat
dedicated concert hall for The Philadelphia Orchestra and a
flexible 650-seat theater. Both are enclosed beneath a
dramatic, barrel-vaulted glass roof, so that the space that
flows between and around them becomes an indoor plaza.
The project is further vitalized by an additional $3 million gift from
Sidney Kimmel. |
