The Philadelphia Orchestra is founded.
· · · The Philadelphia Orchestra's first performance took place on November 16, 1900 with Fritz Scheel (right) at the podium. During his seven-year tenure as the Orchestra's first Music Director, Scheel brought in a number of fine players trained in Europe. A century later, The Philadelphia Orchestra continues to distinguish itself as one of the leading orchestras in the world through acclaimed performances, international tours, and best-selling recordings.
