At 11am on Sunday, December 16, 2001, three festive ribbons connecting Perelman Theater, Commonwealth Plaza and Verizon Hall are cut and confetti blankets the cheering crowd as a two-week Opening Celebration featuring daily free performances begins. 40,000 people visit the Kimmel Center throughout the day.
