Community Partnerships & InitiativesWe are proud to partner with leading community-based arts and cultural organizations to provide robust arts education programming and performance art opportunities in the Philadelphia regional community for children of all ages.
Each month in Commonwealth Plaza, children and families join us for a one hour program designed for the littlest music lovers. This FREE program introduces kids (targeted for ages 5 and younger) to jazz concepts, silly songs, musical instruments, storytelling and song, and musical theater. The Kimmel Center is the recipient of partnership funding through the nationally recognized PNC "Grow Up Great" program, a $350 million, multi-year initiative to help prepare children from birth to age five for success in school and life. Grow Up Great programs are curated with the help of the Temple University Music Preparatory Division.

Bop and Swing
Now in its eighth year, The Bop and Swing program in partnership with the School District of Philadelphia introduces preschoolers to the wonderful world of jazz. Tapping, clapping, bopping, and swinging to Ellington, Ella, Dizzy, and others are just some of the imaginative and creative ways children learn about jazz while reinforcing skills learned in the classroom. The program is offered to three selected area Head Start schools, and is generously funded through the PNC “Grow Up Great” nationwide initiative.
Temple University Early Childhood Music Program - Residency
Temple University Music Preparatory Division and the Kimmel Center continue their educational partnership through The Early Childhood Music Foundations Program for children from birth through age 4. Held on the Kimmel Center campus, classes encourage the development of musical awareness in very young children and help parents foster their child’s natural musical abilities.
University of Pennsylvania’s MAGPI program
The Kimmel Center Education Department and the University of Pennsylvania MAGPI program have joined in partnership to provide virtual learning education via Internet 2 to classrooms throughout the nation.
A list of programs offered and their dates and times can be found on the MAGPI website at magpi.net/Calendar.
