Electronic Keyboard
The Electronic Keyboard Class presents the basic set-up and operation of standard electronic keyboards. This includes cable connections, powering up, keyboard features and application. No prior keyboard knowledge is required.
Objective
- Keyboard set up and basic keyboard settings will be learned.
- Students will play a simple jazz standard melody using at least one hand.
Activity
- Students will set up and explore the feature found on a standard electronic keyboard provided by the Kimmel Center.
- Students will play an arrangement of a jazz standard, incorporate it into keyboard ensemble

Student Activity
Gain access to an electronic keyboard. Find out the following by hands on exploration:
- Can it play various accompaniments?
- Can it play various sounds?
- Can you alter the sounds?
- Can it play more than one sound at a time?
- Can you record what you play on it?
- Can it “sample” external sounds?
- Standard 1: Singing, alone and with others, a varied repertoire of music
- Standard 2: Performing on instruments, alone and with others, a varied repertoire of music.
- Standard 6: Listening to, analyzing and describing music
- Standard 8: Understanding relationships between music, the other arts, and disciplines outside the arts.
