Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts

Student Matinees

Each year, the Kimmel Center offers selected student matinee performances from the Kimmel Center Presents concert series. These concerts provide a unique opportunity for students and teachers to experience a performance and participate in a conversation about the works and the artists who present them. All matinees are approximately one hour in length and include program materials provided in advance of the concert. Tickets are $10 for each concert, including students and chaperones. All matinee performances are at 11am.

Sweet Honey in the Rock
Sweet Honey in the Rock... a Tribute
Wed, Feb 27, 2013 | Merriam Theater
Grammy® Award nominated a cappella ensemble Sweet Honey In The Rock unveils their most adventurous live presentation yet, a tribute entitled SWEET HONEY IN THE ROCK: Remembering Odetta and Miriam, with a special salute to Abbey Lincoln. Featuring a seasoned jazz trio on several songs, Sweet Honey In The Rock honors the legacies of these distinct and out-spoken musical icons in an incredible program with a special segment dedicated to each artist and new arrangements of some of their classic and most popular recordings. Premiered at Jazz at Lincoln Center in a spectacular set of performances, the live recording will be released as an album including songs along the lines of Odetta's 'Freedom Suite,' and 'Midnight Special,' Makeba's 'Pata Pata,' and 'Sabou Maya,' and Lincoln's 'A Turtle's Dream,' and 'Down Here Below.'
