Geoff McDonald in his 3rd year as Director and Conductor of Philadelphia Young Artists Orchestra returns to the Perelman Theater stage with the Orchestra for its 18th Annual Festival Concert. Founded in 1995 as the companion ensemble to the internationally acclaimed Philadelphia Youth Orchestra, PYAO presents its final concert of the season, as part of Philadelphia Youth Orchestra's 73rd Anniversary Season.
Maestro McDonald and the orchestra perform Balakirev's Overture on Three Russian Folk Songs; Schubert's Symphony No. 8, his 'unfinished' masterwork; and Dvorak's Symphony No. 8, a work that has been characterized as having a cheerful manner in the style of Brahms' Second Symphony, yet is also Dvoøák's most self-consciously 'Czech' symphony.
