One of the most charismatic and highly-respected artists of her generation, Stephanie Blythe is regularly revered for delivering dramatic performances and moving audiences. Initially hailed as the successor to the great Marilyn Horne, her career has rapidly grown to encompass music from Baroque to bel canto and from Classical to contemporary with 'compelling immediacy and subtle differentiation' (Wall Street Journal). Recitals in particular, for Blythe, are when "the relationship with the audience is symbiotic, and fostering that connection has become an integral part of my performances." Blythe will perform works by James Legg, Samuel Barber and songs of Tin Pan Alley for her PCMS recital. A particularly compelling part of the program will be Blythe's performance of Twelve Poems of Emily Dickinson by the late composer James Legg, who had intended the work to be sung by Blythe specifically. Soon after Legg's untimely death, the piece was given to Blythe by Legg's partner and Artistic Director Emeritus of The Old Globe, Jack O'Brien. Blythe premiered the piece recently in recital with Warren Jones at Town Hall in New York City. Don't miss this rare recital appearance by Blythe, who has the chameleon-like ability to finesse an array of repertoire and roles.
