Media Calendar for March – June 2010

DECEMBER 1, 2009

Springtime performances blossom on the stages of the Kimmel Center, Academy of Music, Merriam Theater and Forrest Theatre from March through June 2010.

Beginning in late March, Broadway’s spectacular six-time Tony® Award winner Disney’s The Lion King returns for an unforgettable trip through the African Pridelands; followed by a big family showdown in the powerful tale August: Osage County; and a sensational new production of the fame and fortune of Dreamgirls, an up-and-coming 1960s girl group.

Kimmel Center Presents’ newly added spring line-up includes the Kimmel Center debut of country music phenomenon Vince Gill and long-time ballad singer Johnny Mathis; the return of Venezuelan conductor Gustavo Dudamel making his debut as the music director of the Los Angeles Philharmonic; the Aspen Santa Fe Ballet, one of the nation’s pioneering contemporary dance companies; and, Max Raabe & Palast Orchester performing silky renditions of 1920’s Berlin cabaret, among many others.

Philadelphia star power includes: the return of Curtis Institute graduates pianist Yuja Wang and organist Paul Jacobs for distinctive performances at the Kimmel Center; Philadanco continuing its 40th anniversary celebration with the world premiere of a new ballet by Jawole Willa Jo Zollar; Curtis Opera Theater presenting the classic love story Antony & Cleopatra in association with the Opera Company of Philadelphia and Kimmel Center Presents; and, Philadelphia-born jazz vocalist Denise King and Philadelphia-based Venissa Santi paying tribute to Billie Holiday in the Jazz Up Close Series.
