Cozy up indoors at the Kimmel Center during the winter months with a panoply of 2009/10 seasonal programming.  From Broadway blockbusters to holiday favorites and the best of classical, jazz, world, pop and dance performances, there is something for everyone to enjoy at the Kimmel Center, Academy of Music and Merriam Theater.

Family fun entertainment is in full swing with the return of Broadway’s smash hit WICKED (Jan. 6-24), the untold story of the witches of Oz; Kimmel Center Presents features the heart-warming holiday music of the cherubic Vienna Boys Choir (Fri., Dec. 4); the annual free community concert, TUBACHRISTMAS Celebration (Sat., Dec. 19); and the timeless tale of little orphan ANNIE (Feb. 26-28).

In February, celebrate Valentine’s Day all month long with The Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber (Feb. 9-14); Maestro Valery Gergiev leading the Mariinsky Orchestra (formerly the Kirov Orchestra) (Mon., Feb. 22) through a program of Berlioz’s Romeo and Juliet; and New Zealand’s all-male dance company Black Grace making their Philadelphia debut (Feb. 26-27).

The Jazz Up Close series continues to pay tribute to Philadelphia native Billie Holiday with performances by Sheila Jordan (Sat., Dec. 5) and Claudia Acuña (Sat., Feb. 6); Homegrown talent also includes the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia and two local choirs led by renowned conductor Helmuth Rilling (Fri., Feb. 12); and Philly’s jazz piano virtuoso McCoy Tyner performing with legendary saxophonist Joe Lovano (Fri., Feb. 19).
