Start the New Year right with free community concerts every Friday night and other free events at the Kimmel Center in January.

The Free at the Kimmel series includes:

  • Friday LIVE, a series of free musical performances by regional musicians on the Commonwealth Plaza stage every* Friday from 5:30pm to 7:15pm throughout the 2009/10 season 
  • PNC Grow Up Great free concerts for kids in Commonwealth Plaza
  • Free themed tours, including the new Academy of Music Tours, Building & Theater Tours and Art & Architecture Tours are conducted daily by experienced volunteer guides

New Year's Day Celebration

As the Mummers strut down Broad Street, take a break from the cold and ring in the New Year with the Kimmel Center! See free festive performances, make your mark on the Resolution Wall, take advantage of $20.10 ticket offers and enjoy a slice of cake for all those January 1st birthdays.

World Music with Daria

Travel around the world in song with internationally known performer Daria! In this interactive show, kids participate in world music traditions by playing along on authentic instruments from cultures including Latin America, Africa and the Middle East. With two Parent's Choice Awards, a Children's Music Web Award and a National Parenting Publications Award to her credit, Daria shares music created to inspire and uplift all the world's children.

Steve Pullara and His Cool Beans Band

Ring in the first day of the New Year with Philly's own multi-award-winning Steve Pullara and His Cool Beans Band! Cool Beans songs are well known with kids and parents who listen to WXPN's Kids Corner, WHYY-FM's Crazy College, Pandora Radio and various national radio programs. Marc Silver & the Stonethrowers

Marc's bluegrass band, the Stonethrowers, has opened for Bela Fleck and The Flecktones, Jerry Douglas, Chuck Prophet, Hot Club of Cowtown, Moe, King Wilkie, and many others. The Stonethrowers blend a passion for traditional song, Appalachian fiddle tunes and jazz with a unique mix of original songwriting, bluegrass and folk music. Lead singing with great vocal character and seamlessly blended three-part vocal harmonies fill out their energetic delivery. Geator Dance Party with DJ Mark the Spark

Party with the Boss with the Hot Sauce and DJ Mark the Spark as they spin tunes from the good old days, prior to and following the ticketed Jerry Blavat's Legends of Rock n' Roll & R&B performance in Verizon Hall.

of Music Tour - NEW!

Select dates, 11:30am
Visit this historic grand opera house, decorated in baroque style, for a tour that includes the Grand Lobby, Stage Door Canteen, the recently renovated Ballroom and the main auditorium with its dazzling chandelier. Due to the Academy's busy performance calendar, tours are available on select dates, by reservation only. Call 215-790-5886 for information and reservations. This tour is approximately one hour in duration.

Building & Theater Tour
Join us for a themed tour which includes a history of the Kimmel Center; architectural and construction highlights; and visits to Commonwealth Plaza, Perelman Theater, Verizon Hall, Merck Arts Education Center and the Dorrance H. Hamilton Garden. This tour is approximately one hour in duration.
Please note: Building & Theater Tours will not be offered on January 1.

Art & Architecture Tour
Join us for a themed tour which includes an in-depth look at the Kimmel Center's architecture, a walk along the Avenue of the Arts to view the Center in the context of the cityscape, and a tour of artworks on display throughout the Kimmel Center, including the Moore Galleries and the recently installed Percent for Art collection. This tour is approximately 90 minutes in duration.
