Young Musicians Learn from the Best at the Kimmel Center's Seventh Annual Teen Summer Arts Camp

During the Jazz Camp, young instrumental enthusiasts study and perform a variety of genres from Dixieland to swing and from Afro-Cuban to contemporary music. Facilitated by director Marc Johnson, the students go through two weeks and learn to perform in a big band setting as well as small ensembles.
The Chamber Orchestra Camp students, under the direction of Sydney Curtiss and Shirley Curtiss, will study various genres of chamber music within a two week span.
The first of the four, two week camps, started June 21 with the Choral/ Vocal Camp headed by director and accompanist, Carol Frazier. The camp allows for students to study vocal technique, sight singing, dancing, and developing their vocal skills as soloists as well as ensemble members. On Friday, the students showcased their musical development during the camp's "Moments of Sharing". Their performances included music from Sweeny Todd as well as In the Heights and Les Miserable, two Broadway shows to be featured in this upcoming season at the
The Pipe Organ camp students, directed by Alan Morrison, study various pieces from the Pipe Organ repertoire, along with technique and pedagogy; both one on one with an instructor as well as in a group setting. The Pipe Organ camp is still the only camp in the Teen Summer Arts camp program that hosts two “Moments of Sharing” performances; a church tour and at the Curtis Institute of Music’s Field Concert Hall.
The Teen summer Arts Program features small group instruction, coaching sessions, daily ensemble rehearsal, master classes conducted by a guest artist, free tickets to performance venues and interaction among talented student artists from, but not limited to, the Tri-state area. At the end of each two week session, the campers showcase their development in a “Moments of Sharing” performance held in the Perelman Theater in the
