It’s “Lights Up” as The Kimmel Center’s 2010-2011 Season Gets Underway

This fall The Kimmel Center turns up the lights on what will be an exciting and vibrant season for performing arts in Philadelphia, one that features the artists and their creations, those who bring the performances to life, the patrons who fill the theaters, and the incredible creativity and artistic excitement that exists in the Greater Philadelphia region.

“We believe in the transformative power of the performing arts experience and the lasting impact it can have on our audiences” said Kimmel Center President and CEO Anne Ewers.  “The Kimmel Center is all about creating treasured moments of entertainment.  Our world-class Resident Companies and our own slate of programming will bring audiences wide ranging, diverse and accessible entertainment that is innovative and creative, all in the iconic spaces that make up the Kimmel Center.”

Here is a sample of what’s ahead for this fall and into 2011 in classical, jazz, dance and other entertainment genres:

·         Cello Virtuoso Yo-Yo Ma Performs in Verizon Hall on October 17, 2010

·         Broadway Season presentations this fall include The Philly Fan, Jersey Boys, Burn the Floor, South Pacific, Parenting 101, The Musical!, and Blue Man Group

·         Great Orchestras Series includes Daniel Harding with Dresden Staatskapelle Orchestra (November 2, 2010), followed by Valery Gergiev with London Symphony Orchestra (February 22, 2011), and Daniele Gatti with Orchestre National de France (April 15, 2011)

·         Organ Recitals Series Returns with Gunnar Idenstam (November 6, 2010), followed by Joan Lippincott (February 26, 2011) and Thierry Escaich (April 16, 2011) performing on The Fred J. Cooper Memorial Organ

·         Dave Brubeck returns to the Kimmel Center on October 26, 2010

·         Jazz Up Close Series Celebrates Thelonious Monk with PanaMonk Revisited performance by Danilo Pérez, John Patitucci, and Teri Lyne Carrington (November 13, 2010); followed by Geri Allen Quartet (December 4, 2010); Randy Weston Quintet (March 5, 2011)

·         Keyboard Conversations continues with Jeffrey Siegel performing “Chopin the Passionate Patriot” (October 18, 2010), followed by “Three Great ‘Bs’ – Bach, Beethoven, and Barber” (February 7, 2011) and “Paris 1911—A Festive Musical Year!” (April 25, 2011)

·         Dance Highlights Include Philadanco’s Xmas Philes (December 10-12, 2010), followed by Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Rennie Harris Puremovement, Argentina’s Tango Fire, and Savion Glover in the 2011 New Year

·         A Mosaic of Performances from Spanish singer Buika (October 26, 2010), Garrison Keillor (November 15, 2010), the Vienna Boys Choir (December 3, 2010), and Marvin Hamlisch and Michael Feinstein performing The Great American Songbook (December 26, 2010)

Wolfgang Puck Brings His Culinary Excellence to the Kimmel Center

Not only is the Kimmel Center synonymous with the finest performing arts in Philadelphia, it will soon raise the bar on special event experiences.  With the commencement of this season, world-renowned chef Wolfgang Puck and his catering team will light up taste buds in Philadelphia (and exclusively at the Kimmel Center) with his highly acclaimed special event services.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for our catering operations,” noted Chef Puck.  “We are very excited about coming to Philadelphia, a major American market.  The association with the Kimmel Center, its world-class entertainment and dramatic venues are a perfect complement to our goal of providing fresh, seasonal cuisine and a restaurant-quality event experience in landmark and unique locations.”

“We are very excited about bringing the culinary vision of a world class chef to Philadelphia,” commented Kimmel Center President & CEO Anne Ewers.  “In addition to chef Puck’s catering activities, Wolfgang will develop a ground floor restaurant as part of our overall vision to further enliven the Kimmel Center’s dramatic public spaces.  We look forward to a long and productive partnership with Wolfgang and his team.”

 Wolfgang Puck Catering will debut its event dining services on September 23, 2010 at the Philadelphia Orchestra’s Opening Gala at the Kimmel Center and will offer gourmet hors d’oeuvres at the Kimmel’s ground level bar starting this fall.  The space previously occupied by Cadence restaurant is now available to host special events.

Kimmel Center 2010/2011 Season sponsored by Citi single tickets available starting Tuesday, September 7

Philadelphia, PA – Single tickets to all the Kimmel Center Presents 2010/2011 season performances sponsored by Citi go on sale to the general public on Tuesday, September 7 beginning at 10 am.

The 2010/2011 season features a diverse selection of artists – guaranteed to satisfy every musical taste. Performances will range from modern jazz, dance and pop to world music, organ and classical recitals.  The season will open on October 4th with a sweet and melancholic pop show presented by The xx.

Tickets can be purchased by calling 215-893-1999, or online at kimmelcenter.org. Tickets are also available at the Kimmel Center box office, open daily from 10am to 6pm, additional fees may apply. Single ticket buyers who purchase tickets to three or more performances at one time save at least 10% and are entitled to benefits normally afforded subscribers.

Although individual tickets can be purchased, patrons also can build a custom package with the Create Your Own series option. Subscribers select three or more performances from any show on the season calendar, combining Kimmel Center and Broadway shows, in the More You See the More You Save packages.

A limited number of $10 community rush tickets are available for most performances. These tickets go on sale the day of the event and can be purchased at the box office beginning at 11:00 AM for matinee performances and 5:30 PM for evening performances.
