Later in the Month Brings George Lopez

Over the course of three days in November stand-up comedy's biggest acts bring their uniquely humorous, often raucous, and sometimes raunchy acts to the Kimmel Center.

 

The weekend of laughs kicks off on Friday, November 5, 2010 with stand-up Louis C.K., who shares his unique perspective on life as a stand-up comedian and single father in his new hit FX series Louie.  Emmy Award winner Kathy Griffin performs on Saturday, November 6th, dishing her latest views on pop culture and life with her mother.  Rounding out the three-day laugh fest, the Vince Vaughn & Kevin James Comedy Roadshow (live sketch comedy by Vaughn and James, with stand-up performances by comedians Richie Minervini, Owen Benjamin, and Steve Byrne) stops in Philadelphia on Sunday, November 7th.

 

At the end of the month, the raucousness continues when George Lopez brings a mature audiences only (18+ years) show to the Kimmel Center on Friday, November 19, 2010.

With more than 20 years as a stand-up comedian, Louis C.K. is considered one of the most honest and respected comedic voices of his generation, finding success in television and film, as well as on stage. His new FX series, Louie, which airs on Tuesdays at 11pm, premiered to rave reviews over the summer. It chronicles his life in Manhattan as a comic and single father of two young girls.  The concert film, Louis C.K.: Hilarious, was the first stand-up concert film presented at the Sundance Film Festival (2010).  And in July, Louis was nominated for an Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing for a Variety, Music or Comedy Special for Louis C.K.: Chewed Up.

During her 17-city tour, Emmy award winner Kathy Griffin takes a humorous slant on life in Hollywood and today’s celebrity obsessed culture.  Best known for her supporting role as Vickie Groener of NBC 10’s Suddenly Susan, Griffin has paved a path all her own as a stand-up comedian with a series of half hour HBO comedy specials, including A Hot Cup of Talk (1998).  Her Bravo special The D-List was the basis for her Emmy Award winning reality series Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D List. And her recent 2010 memoir, Tip It: The World According to Maggie, chronicles her relationship with her mother, Maggie Griffin.

Funny men Kevin James and Vince Vaughn hit the road in early November on a 14-city tour. The Vince Vaughn & Kevin James Comedy Roadshow features sketch comedy by James and Vaughn, with stand-up performances by nationally recognized comedians Richie Minervini, Owen Benjamin, and Steve Byrne.  Vaughn and James can be seen together in Ron Howard’s upcoming film, The Dilemma, which also stars Jennifer Connelly, Winona Ryder, Channing Tatum, and Queen Latifah and is set to hit theaters nationwide on January 14th, 2011.  

 

Minervini is a native of Huntington, New York and a veteran comedian with many acting credits to his name, including Paul Blart: Mall Cop and the CBS hit sitcom The King of Queens.  Benjamin hails from Oswego, New York, was a regular on MTV's Punk'd, and has appeared on E! Entertainment's Chelsea Lately and Comedy Central's Live At Gotham.  He is a regular correspondent on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.  Pittsburgh native Byrne's hour-long special The Byrne Identity airs on Comedy Central. He has also made appearances on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, and The Late Late Show.
