GARRISON KEILLOR Brings “Pretty Good” Wit and Humor to the Kimmel Center, Nov. 15

OCTOBER 22, 2010

Presented in Association with Live Nation

America’s favorite storyteller Garrison Keillor returns to the Kimmel Center’s Verizon Hall on Monday, November 15, 2010 at 8pm, bringing his own brand of wry Minnesota-bred wit and humor onstage. One of the country’s greatest raconteurs as host of the nationally-broadcast radio show, A Prairie Home Companion®, Keillor will reflect on life in the rural Midwest and issues around the world, both small and large.  Audiences will discover why Keillor’s public radio program continues to dominate the airwaves with 3.3 million listeners for over 35 years.

Tickets for Garrison Keillor are $40 to $65 and available by phone at 215-893-1999, online at kimmelcenter.org, or in person at the Kimmel Center box office (open daily from 10am to 6pm and later on performance evenings). Additional fees may apply.

Garrison Keillor, the host and writer of A Prairie Home Companion®, was born in Anoka, Minnesota in 1942. He graduated from the University of Minnesota where he began his broadcasting career on the student run radio station.  In 1969, he began work for Minnesota Public Radio on the 6 to 9am shift where A Prairie Home Companion® was born.  It was only after completing an article on “The Grand Ole Opry” for The New Yorker magazine that Keillor had the idea for a live show with musical guests.  Keillor still hosts the show, and gives his “News from Lake Wobegon” monologue both at home in St. Paul and on the road.  A prolific writer, Keillor has also published over 16 books, including the more recent Homegrown Democrat; Pontoon (2007); Liberty (2008) and A Wobegon Romance (2009), as well as articles in The New Yorker and The Atlantic Monthly.

Keillor has received various accolades through the years, as well, including a Grammy® award for his recording of Lake Wobegon Days. A member for the Academy of Arts & Letters, he was recently presented with a National Humanities Medal by the National Endowment for the Humanities.  The 2006 movie release of A Prairie Home Companion featured Keillor playing himself alongside Hollywood greats Meryl Streep and Lily Tomlin, among others.
