Free Friday LIVE Performances and Other Free at the Kimmel Events Offer Something for Everyone in November

The Kimmel Center's Free at the Kimmel series continues in November with Friday LIVE, a series of free musical performances by regional musicians on the Commonwealth Plaza stage every* Friday from 5:30pm to 7:15pm throughout the 2009/10 season.
Friday LIVE artists perform jazz, dance, world, classical, singer-songwriter and family fare in Commonwealth Plaza, transformed into a casual, cabaret-style atmosphere with the Peco Caf providing specially priced happy hour drinks and tapas selections for purchase.
Free at the Kimmel offerings also include PNC Grow Up Great concerts for kids in Commonwealth Plaza; Organ Postludes on the Fred J. Cooper Memorial Organ in Verizon Hall; and other special events. Free themed tours, including Building & Theater Tours, Art & Architecture Tours and the new Academy of Music Tours, are conducted daily by experienced volunteer guides.

West Chester University Harp Ensemble
Led by West Chester University Professor Gloria Galante, WCU Harp
Ensemble is a diverse group of talented harpists. The ensemble performs
an annual concert known as 'Harpfest,' tours the tri- state area, and
performs on television and radio. The ensemble plays works of Bach,
Beethoven, Brahms, Grandjany, Godefroid, Salzedo, Renie, Mozart,
Debussy and much more. This free performance will take place prior to
the ticketed performance by Andr Watts in Verizon Hall.

Caryn Lin, electric violin
'An
electric violinist for the space age,' Caryn Lin plays her five string
electric violin and uses sound effects and looping to create short on
the spot recordings of her violin, voice, percussion instruments and
other sounds. Layers of sound over deceptively simple melodies result
in music that is both otherworldly and totally catchy, mesmerizing and
completely unique! It is eclectic, seamlessly combining New Age, world,
classical and rock. This performance takes place as part of Friday
LIVE, a series of free musical performances on the Commonwealth Plaza
stage every Friday from 5:30pm to 7:15pm throughout the 2009/10 season.

Bill & Tammy's Children's World Music Express
Children's
World Music Express (CWME) celebrates music and movement through
cultural diversity. Bill & Tammy engage children in a variety of
songs, dance, styles, rhythms and melodies from around the world.
Program includes: ethnic songs, American traditional songs and
instruments from Greek, African, Indian, Latin, Middle Eastern, Western
and Asian cultures.

Jeremy Dyen
Featuring Josh Robinson
One of Philadelphia's most sought-after keyboard players, Jeremy Dyen
has maintained an extensive career as an original singer, songwriter
and composer. He played on John Legend's Grammy Award-winning CD Get Lifted,
and has performed with G-Love, Digable Planets and tabla/percussion
master Zakir Hussain. He currently performs with acoustic soul artist
Mutlu and the infectious Brazilian group Alo Brasil, among others. This
performance takes place as part of Friday LIVE, a series of free
musical performances on the Commonwealth Plaza stage every Friday from
5:30pm to 7:15pm throughout the 2009/10 season.

Lizanne Knott
A
long standing member of the music scene in Philadelphia and an
award-winning singer-songwriter, Lizanne Knott has been captivating
audiences throughout the U.S. and garnering attention from industry
peers across the globe. Well known locally for her understated music,
floating vocals and lyrical juxtapositions, she moves easily through
dark poetic ballads to soul infused folk, folk rock and jazz, joined by
an eclectic group of musicians. This free performance will take place
in Commonwealth Plaza prior to the ticketed performance by the New York
Philharmonic in Verizon Hall, as part of the Kimmel Center's Friday
LIVE series of free performances every Friday at 5:30pm.

Caroline Robinson
Caroline
Robinson, an alumnus of Curtis Institute and the Kimmel Center's Teen
Summer Arts Camps, will perform an Organ Postlude on the Fred J. Cooper
Memorial Organ in Verizon Hall following the ticketed performance by
the New York Philharmonic with Maestro Riccardo Muti.

Svitanya
Svitanya (Svee-tah-nya) is a women's vocal ensemble whose lively
performance of Eastern European folk music has captivated audiences
across the northeast. The ensemble's mission is to bring this beautiful
music to a wide range of audiences from those who are familiar
through their ancestral roots to those who are encountering it for the
first time. This free performance takes place prior to the ticketed
performance by the Virsky Ukrainian National Dance Company in Verizon
Hall.

Building & Theater Tour
Join us for a themed tour which includes a history of the Kimmel
Center; architectural and construction highlights; and visits to
Commonwealth Plaza, Perelman Theater, Verizon Hall, Merck Arts
Education Center and the Dorrance H. Hamilton Garden. This tour is
approximately one hour in duration.
Please note: Building & Theater Tours will not be offered on November 3, 5 or 26.

Art & Architecture Tour
Join us for a themed tour which includes an in-depth look at the Kimmel
Center's architecture, a walk along the Avenue of the Arts to view the
Center in the context of the cityscape, and a tour of artworks on
display throughout the Kimmel Center, including the Moore Galleries and
the recently installed Percent for Art collection. This tour is
approximately 90 minutes in duration.
Academy of Music | Free Themed Tours

Visit this historic grand opera house, decorated in baroque style, for
a tour that includes the Grand Lobby, Stage Door Canteen , the recently
renovated Ballroom and the main auditorium with its dazzling
chandelier. Due to the Academy's busy performance calendar, tours are
available on select dates, by reservation only. Call 215-790-5886 for
information and reservations. This tour is approximately one hour in
duration.
