“It is with great pleasure that we unveil another fabulous Broadway Season for everyone in the Philadelphia region to enjoy…new patrons, returning patrons, and our loyal subscribers!,” said Kimmel Center President and CEO Anne Ewers. “Our 2012/13 Broadway Season includes more productions than ever before and boasts 11 ‘chart- topping’ impressive musicals!   We are excited to welcome Broadway’s most popular and successful touring productions in tandem with the return of several favorite classics.  Together with The Shubert Organization, we are extremely grateful for the ongoing support of theater patrons in our great City and the surrounding communities throughout the Delaware Valley.”

“This year’s outstanding slate of theatrical offerings is sure to please theater fans from all over the greater Philadelphia area” said Philip J. Smith, chairman of The Shubert Organization, Inc. “We have an incredible line-up of the best shows currently on tour, and we are proud to team with the Kimmel Center in offering this impressive choice of entertainment to our audiences. We are extremely appreciative of the terrific support from our patrons and subscribers over the years….our numbers have grown impressively, which is a strong indication that we are providing what you – our audiences – want to see. We thank all of you for supporting us so enthusiastically!”

A remarkable tale of courage, loyalty and friendship, WAR HORSE (Nov. 20 – Dec. 2, 2012 at the Academy of Music), winner of five 2011 Tony® Awards, will launch the new Broadway Season in the fall.

Hailed by The New York Times as “theatrical magic,” WAR HORSE is the powerful story of young Albert’s beloved horse, Joey, who has been enlisted to fight for the English in World War I. In a tale the New York Daily News calls ‘spellbinding, by turns epic and intimate,” Joey is caught in enemy crossfire and ends up serving both sides of the war before landing in no man’s land. Albert, not old enough to enlist, embarks on a treacherous mission to find his horse and bring him home. What follows is a remarkable tale of courage, loyalty and friendship, filled with stirring music and songs and told with some of the most innovative stagecraft of our time.

This powerfully moving and imaginative drama is a show of phenomenal inventiveness that is currently playing to packed houses in London and New York.  At its heart are astonishing life-sized puppets created by South Africa’s Handspring Puppet Company, that bring to life breathing, galloping, charging horses strong enough for men to ride. MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET (Dec. 11 – 16, 2012 at the Forrest Theatre) is the Tony® Award-winning Broadway musical, inspired by the electrifying true story of the famed recording session that brought together rock ‘n’ roll icons Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins for the first and only time.

On December 4, 1956, these four young musicians were gathered together by Sam Phillips, the “Father of Rock ‘n’ Roll” at Sun Records in Memphis for what would be one of the greatest jam sessions of all time.  MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET brings that legendary night to life with an irresistible tale of broken promises, secrets, betrayal and

celebrations featuring timeless hits including “Blue Suede Shoes,” “Fever,” “That’s All Right,” Sixteen Tons,” “Great Balls of Fire,” “I Walk the Line,” “Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On,” “Who Do You Love?,” “Matchbox,” “Folsom Prison Blues,” “Hound Dog,” and more.

This thrilling musical brings you inside the recording studio with four major talents who came together as a red-hot rock ‘n’ roll band for one unforgettable night.  For more information visit MillionDollarQuartetLive.com.

Starring in the dual title role of Dr. Henry Jekyll and Edward Hyde, American Idol star and Tony Award nominee Constantine Maroulis injects new life into the classic tale of good and evil, JEKYLL & HYDE (Dec. 26 – 30, 2012 at the Forrest Theatre).

After four thrilling, chilling years on Broadway and multiple world-wide tours, this dark and dangerous love story from Tony® and Grammy® Award nominee Frank Wildhorn returns in a stunning new pre-Broadway production that includes all the classic songs (This Is The Moment, A New Life, Someone Like You) that first grabbed audiences by the throat and transformed JEKYLL & HYDE into a theatrical phenomenon.

Based on the hit DreamWorks film and the incredible true story that inspired it, CATCH ME IF YOU CAN (Jan. 15 – 20, 2013 at the Academy of Music) is the high-flying, splashy new Broadway musical that tells the story of Frank W. Abagnale, Jr., a teenager who runs away from home in search of the glamorous life.  With nothing more than his boyish charm, a big imagination and millions of dollars in forged checks, Frank successfully poses as a pilot, a doctor and a lawyer – living the high life and winning the girl of his dreams.  But when Frank’s lies catch the attention of FBI agent Carl Hanratty, Carl chases Frank to the end…and finds something he never expected.

This delightfully entertaining musical has been created by a Tony® Award-winning “dream team,” with a book by Terrence McNally (The Full Monty, Ragtime), a swinging score by Marc Shaiman & Scott Wittman (Hairspray), choreography by Jerry Mitchell (Hairspray, Legally Blonde) and direction by Jack O’Brien (Hairspray, The Full Monty, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels).

Bette Midler proudly presents the most outrageously fun Broadway musical: PRISCILLA QUEEN OF THE DESERT (Feb. 26 – March 3, 2013 at the Academy of Music). This spectacular show tells the uplifting story of a trio of friends on a road trip of a lifetime, who hop aboard a battered old bus searching for love and friendship in the middle of the Australian outback and endup finding more than they could ever have dreamed.

An international hit with over 500 dazzling, 2011 Tony® Award-winning costumes, PRISCILLA features a hit parade of dance-floor favorites including “It’s Raining Men,” “Finally,” and “I Will Survive.”  The Hollywood Reporter calls PRISCILLA “funny and fabulous!  Joyous entertainment with eye-popping visuals and unexpected heart!” For more information visit PriscillaOnBroadway.com.

The weird and wonderful family comes to devilishly delightful life in THE ADDAMS FAMILY (March 19 – 24, 2013 at the Academy of Music).  This magnifiicently macabre new musical comedy is “a visually satisfying, rib-tackling, lunatic musical that will entertain you to death”! says Toronto City Post.  Created by Jersey Boys authors Marshall Brickman & Rick Elice, Drama Desk-winning composer/lyricist Andrew Lippa (The Wild Party), choreographer Sergio Trujillo (Jersey Boys) and Olivier Award-winning director/designers Phelim McDermott & Julian Crouch (Shockheaded Peter) with creative consultation by four-time Tony® Award winner Jerry Zaks, THE ADDAMS FAMILY “is full of charm, wit and surprises that explain why it’s a hit on its national tour” (CBS New Orleans).

THE ADDAMS FAMILY features an original story and it’s every father’s nightmare.  Wednesday Addams, the ultimate princess of darkness, has grown up and fallen in love with a sweet, smart young man from a respectable family.  A man her parents have never met.  And if that weren’t upsetting enough, she confides in her father and begs him not to tell her mother.  Now, Gomez Addams must do something he’s never done before – keep a secret from his beloved wife, Morticia.  Everything will change for the whole family on the fateful night they host a dinner for Wednesday’s “normal” boyfriend and his parents.  Come meet the family.  We’ll leave the lights off for you.

SISTER ACT (April 2 – 7, 2013 at the Academy of Music) is Broadway’s feel-amazing musical comedy smash!  The New York Post calls it “RIDICULOUSLY FUN,” and audiences are jumping to their feet in total agreement!  Featuring original music by 8-time Oscar® winner ALAN MENKEN (Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, Little Shop of Horrors), SISTER ACT tells the story of Deloris Van Cartier, a wannabe diva whose life takes a surprising turn when she witnesses a crime and the cops hide her in the last place anyone would think to look – a convent!  Under the suspicious watch of Mother Superior, Deloris helps her fellow sisters find their voices as she unexpectedly rediscovers her own.  A sparkling tribute to the universal power of friendship SISTER ACT is reason to REJOICE!

Additional shows for the 2012/13 season will include:

In January 2011, over 32,000 people experienced a brand new 25th anniversary production of Boublil & Schönberg’s legendary musical, LES MISÉRABLES (Jan. 2 – 13, 2013 at the Academy of Music). Now, due to overwhelming demand, LES MISÉRABLES returns to Philadelphia for two weeks only.

Cameron Mackintosh presents LES MISÉRABLES, with glorious new staging and dazzingly reimagined scenery inspired by the paintings of Victor Hugo.  This new production has been acclaimed by critics, fans and new audiences and is breaking box office records wherever it goes.

The New York Times calls this LES MISÉRABLES “splendidly reworked, thrilling and unforgettable. An unquestionably spectacular production from start to finish.”  The London Times hails the new show “a five star hit, astonishingly powerful.”  The Chicago Tribune says this LES MISÉRABLES is a “grand theatrical sweep for a new generation of fans.”

Based on Victor Hugo’s classic novel, LES MISÉRABLES is an epic and uplifting story about the survival of the human spirit.  The magnificent score of Les Misérables includes the classic songs “I Dreamed a Dream,” “On My Own,” “Stars,” “Bring Him Home,” “Do You Hear the People Sing?,” “One Day More,” Empty Chairs at Empty Tables,” “Master Of The House,” and many more.

Direct from Broadway, the smash-hit musical AMERICAN IDIOT (Feb. 12 – 17, 2013 at the Merriam Theater) tells the story of three lifelong friends forced to choose between their dreams and the safety of suburbia.  Their quest for true meaning in a post 9/11 world leads them on the most exhilarating theatrical journey of the season.  Based on Green Day’s GRAMMY® Award-winning multi-platinum album, AMERICAN IDIOT boldly takes the American musical where it’s never gone before.  The result is an experience Charles Isherwood of The New York Times declares “thrilling, emotionally charged, and as moving as any Broadway musical I’ve seen this year!”

Featuring the hits “Boulevard of Broken Dreams,“ “21 Guns,” “Wake Me Up When September Ends,” Holiday” and the blockbuster title track, AMERICAN IDIOT features the music of Green Day and the lyrics of its lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong, direction by Tony Award® winner Michael Mayer (Spring Awakening), choreography by Olivier Award winner Steven Hoggett (Black Watch), music supervision, orchestrations and arrangements by Pulitzer Prize winner Tom Kitt (Next to Normal), Tony Award® winning set design by Christine Jones and Tony Award  winning lighting design by Kevin Adams.

Experience the Phenomenon.  BLUE MAN GROUP (March 5 – 10, 2013 at the  Merriam Theater) is best known for their wildly popular theatrical shows and concerts which combine comedy, music, and technology to produce a totally unique form of entertainment.  The New York Times heralds the show as “One of the most delightful performance pieces ever staged.”

E! Entertainment News exclaims “Blue Man Group is what every live performance aspires to be.”  The Baltimore Sun raves, “Blue Man Group packs a wallop.  It’s a big, loud, funny, slily, visually arresting production!”

Although it is impossible to describe, people of all ages agree that BLUE MAN GROUP is an intensely exciting and wildly outrageous show that leaves the entire audience in a blissful, euphoric state.  With no spoken language, BLUE MAN GROUP is perfect for people of all ages, languages, and cultures.  BLUE MAN GROUP is now on the road for its first U.S. theatrical tour.  This unique experience is a form of entertainment like nothing else; guaranteed to be an outing you will never forget.

Back by “Popular” demand.  Variety calls WICKED ( June 27 – Aug. 4, 2013 at the Academy of Music) “a cultural phenomenon,” and when it last played Philadelphia in  2010, it broke box office records and sold out in record time.  Winner of 35 major awards, including a Grammy and three Tony Awards®, WICKED is “Broadway’s biggest blockbuster” (The New York Times).

Long before that girl from Kansas arrives in Munchkinland, two girls meet in the land of Oz.  One – born with emerald green skin – is smart, fiery and misunderstood.  The other is beautiful, ambitious and very popular.  How these two grow to become the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good makes for “the most complete - and completely  satisfying – new musical in a long time.” (USA Today)
