The Broadway Dreams Foundation (BDF) returns for fourth consecutive summer to partner with the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts to present annual Summer Performing Arts intensive, July 30-August 5. Acclaimed theatrical director Dan Knechtges and Broadway veterans will work with aspiring young performers from the Philadelphia area throughout the week in preparation of “Express Yourself,” a one of a kind Broadway concert open to the public on August 4.

The Broadway Dreams Foundation offers significant scholarships to hundreds of students each year, ensuring that all qualified students are able to realize their Broadway dreams regardless of their financial status. BDF scholarships are primarily awarded based on a combination of financial need and vocal and/or dance talent. Merit scholarships may be awarded to those individuals who demonstrate exceptional performance in voice and/or dance. The 2012 Summer Performing Arts Intensive Tour welcomes Tony Award nominee Dan Knechtges, whose Broadway credits include the critically acclaimed Lysistrata Jones and Xanadu, as director of the Philadelphia concert.

Broadway Dreams Foundation teaches America’s youth how to kick start their career through unique, week-long performance intensives taught by Broadway’s brightest stars and savvy industry insiders. Attendees receive first-rate training in acting, dance and vocal performance before participating alongside their Broadway idols in a one-night concert event open to the public and directed by the industry’s finest directors.
“We cannot wait to share the extraordinary talent and knowledge of these phenomenal Broadway professionals with our students,” says BDF Executive Director Annette Tanner. “The chance to audition for, work with and learn from these exceptional directors is an invaluable opportunity that we are proud to be able to offer to young, emerging artists across the country.”
The 2012 Summer Performing Arts Intensive faculty roster will include BDF Artistic Director Nicholas Rodriguez (Tarzan, ABC’s “One Life to Live”), Tituss Burgess (The Little Mermaid, Jersey Boys), Craig D'Amico (Fiddler on the Roof), Quentin Earl Darrington (Ragtime), Traci Jai Edwards (Legally Blonde), Tony Award winner Jarrod Emick (The Boy From Oz), Eden Espinosa (Wicked), Meg Gillentine (Fosse), Deidre Goodwin (A Chorus Line), Tyler Hanes (A Chorus Line), Nikki Snelson (Legally Blonde, A Chorus Line), Clear Talent Group agent Jamie Harris, Telsey + Co casting directors Craig Burns and Rachel Hoffman along with BDF’s Executive Director Annette Tanner and Creative Producer Paul Canaan (Legally Blonde), and Stafford Arima (Carrie) and Matt Lenz (Hairspray) to direct the intensives in Omaha and Atlanta. Thousands of students have participated in BDF’s programs and have gone on to perform in regional, national and Broadway productions including Disney’s The Lion King, Bring it On, Shrek, The Addams Family and Spring Awakening among others. Countless other BDF students have pursued successful careers in the arts or attend prestigious theatre programs in universities throughout the United States.
BDF will be the subject of a new reality-based television show, tentatively named “Broadway Dreams.” Test shooting has begun for the new series which will follow hundreds of Broadway hopefuls as they learn the ropes from the industry’s brightest stars and savviest of insiders, offering a thrilling backstage look at the triumph and tears, hard work, struggle and passion as talented young artists work to realize their Broadway dreams.
In addition to the week-long Summer Performing Arts Intensives, BDF offers shorter, concentrated workshops entitled “Triple Threat Extremes” in cities throughout the country.
