Named one of Rolling Stone magazines best songwriters, singer-songwriter Conor Oberst adds Philadelphia stop to his 2012 solo tour schedule with a performance of his signature indie-folk rock at the Kimmel Centers Verizon Hall on Sunday, November 18 at 8 p.m. Founder of Bright Eyes, Obersts 12 city solo tour kicks off July 6 in Ottawa, Ontario and continues through December 6 with a performance in Boston, Mass.
Conor Oberst returns to the Kimmel Center following his popular show with Monsters of Folk at the Academy of Music in 2009. In addition to Monsters of Folk, Obersts history of successful projects includes Commander Venus, Desaparecidos, Conor Oberst and the Mystic Valley Band, and most notably Bright Eyes, his main musical vehicle for the past decade. Oberst has been writing and recording music since 1993, drawing inspiration from American blues and folk influences for his emotionally direct lyrics.
Bright Eyes first album as a full band is Letting Off the Happiness (1998), followed by Fevers and Mirrors (2000), and Lifted or The Story is in the Soil, Keep Your Ear to the Ground (2002), which reached No. 11 on the Top Independent Albums chart and catapulted Oberst to New Dylan status. Additional albums include Motion Sickness, recorded live during the Wide Awake tour, and Cassadaga (2007). He has also co-founded with his older brother, Justin, the independent record label Saddle Creek Records, and with his manager, Team Love record label.
Tickets go on sale Friday, June 22, 10 a.m. at kimmelcenter.org, 215-893-1999, or at the Kimmel Center Box Office located on Broad and Spruce streets, Philadelphia, Pa. (open daily from 10am to 6pm, later on performance evenings). Tickets are available for $35, plus applicable service charges.
