Tickets on sale Friday, October 5
Joseph Gordon-Levitt, with help from Levi’s® and Sony®, brings his popular hitRECord On the Road show to Philadelphia’s Merriam Theater on November 19 at 9 p.m.
Building from hitRECord’s recent sold-out successes from across the country including the Sundance Film Festival, L.A.’s Orpheum Theater and New York City’s Le Poisson Rouge, Joseph Gordon-Levitt is inviting audiences of the Northeast to join him for hitRECord's unique evening of entertainment and interactive art making.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt will serve as the unique show’s host for the evening, presenting short new short works of collaboratively made video, music and writing created by the hitRECord world-wide community of artists. Gordon-Levitt will also direct, and will be performing and interact ing with the live audiences in sketches, readings and musical moments — contributed by the hitRECord community. Of course, he’ll encourage audiences to record the proceedings on their cameras, phones and other portable RECording devices.
“Getting the opportunity to present the art that we make together at hitRECord in live settings is almost as gratifying as actually making the work itself,” said Joseph Gordon-Levitt. “And the art that we make at our live shows is not only inspiring, it’s fun as hell!”
Tickets go on sale on Friday, October 5 at 10 a.m. at kimmelcenter.org, 215-893-1999, or at the Kimmel Center Box Office located on Broad and Spruce streets, Philadelphia, Pa. (open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., later on performance evenings). Tickets are available for $19.50 to $39.50, plus applicable service charges.
hitRECord’s technology partner, Sony Electronics, will provide the hitRECord team and some members of the live audience with Sony Alpha NEX cameras to ensure quality footage is captured of the live proceedings for future remixing. Show goers can upload their videos from the live event to hitRECord.org where the hitRECord community of 125,000+ artists will edit and remix the footage to create videos to be screened at future events!
Gordon-Levitt (known for his starring roles in films such as Looper and The Dark Knight Rises) launched hitRECord.org in 2010 as a professional production company that uses the Internet to collaborate with artists from all over the world, forming a community around the art they make together. Artists of all creative focuses (video, audio, image, text) can log on and contribute to hitRECord.
“A big thanks to Levi’s® for partnering with hitRECord on this tour and to Sony for powering the tour’s technology. Because of their support, we’re able to put on the biggest shows we’ve ever conceived, while keeping the ticket prices down. I’m super excited to get back on the road with hitRECord!”
About a hitRECord event at Sundance, Rolling Stone reported: “Joseph Gordon-Levitt and the folks at hitRECord set the place on fire.” And, after hitRECord’s SxSW performance, the Austin Chronicle endearingly noted: “the hitRECord show felt like a group of old friends making new friends by letting them in on a supercool Frankensteinian experiment in artistic cross-pollination.”
HitRECord currently has over 125,000 active members worldwide. Over 5,000 creative contributions are added daily and 500 new artists regularly join hitRECord each day. As with all of hitRECord’s money-making productions, profits from ‘HIT RECORD ON THE ROAD’ will be split 50-50 between hitRECord and 'HIT RECORD ON THE ROAD' contributing artists.
