 The Kimmel Center and The Shubert Organization today announced the brand new Broadway Philadelphia, featuring a spectacular lineup of  Broadway’s most popular touring stage musicals arriving for the 2013-14 season.


The newly-named Broadway Philadelphia is presented collaboratively by The Kimmel Center and The Shubert Organization with productions at the Academy of Music, Forrest Theatre and Merriam Theater. 


From the creators of “South Park” and winner of nine Tony Awards, THE BOOK OF MORMON will play a limited 6-week engagement at the Forrest Theatre. The New York Times calls it “the best musical of this century” and Entertainment Weekly says it’s “the funniest musical of all time.”


Dates for Broadway Philadelphia will include: ONCE (Oct. 29 – Nov. 10, 2013); FLASHDANCE The Musical (Nov. 19 – 24, 2013); WE WILL ROCK YOU (Jan. 14 – 19, 2014); THE GERSHWINS’ PORGY & BESS (Feb. 18 – 23, 2014); THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA (*March 19 – April 13, 2014); EVITA (June 18 – 22, 2014), all at the Academy of Music, and the long-awaited arrival of THE BOOK OF MORMON (*July 29 – Sept. 7, 2014) making its Philadelphia premiere at the Forrest Theatre. Celebrating its 30th anniversary, the pop culture phenomenon of Flashdance is now live onstage. With electrifying dance at its core, Flashdance The Musical tells the inspiring and unforgettable story of Alex Owens, a Pittsburgh steel mill welder by day and a bar dancer by night with dreams of one day becoming a professional performer. When romance with her steel mill boss threatens to complicate her ambitions, Alex learns the meaning of love and its power to fuel the pursuit of her dream. Flashdance The Musical features a score that includes the biggest hit songs from the movie, including the Academy Award-winning title song ‘Flashdance - What a Feeling,’ ‘Maniac,’ ‘Gloria,’ ‘Manhunt,’ and ‘I Love Rock & Roll.’ In addition to these hits, 16 brand new songs have been written for the musical with music by Robbie Roth and lyrics by Robert Cary and Robbie Roth. Following an acclaimed sell-out tour of the United Kingdom, Cameron Mackintosh’s spectacular new production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s phenomenal musical success, The Phantom of the Opera, will make its Philadelphia premiere as part of a brand new U.S. National Tour. Cirque Éloize CIRKOPOLIS – March 11 - 16, 2014 · Merriam Theater 


Cirque Éloize’s bold new creation, Cirkopolis, is brimming with energy. Cirkopolis dives into a vibrant comic book world, pushing the boundaries of visual and audio innovation. We can forward, rewind, slow down, or stop these cinematographic images. In this scenic universe, dance, circus, and theater collide—and the characters’ movements are animated by the breath of poetry and musicality.


The twelve artists of Cirque Éloize perform several advanced acrobatic disciplines, including diabolo, trapeze, Spanish web, teeterboard, Cyr wheel, and contortion. The use of screens and transparency woven over a backdrop of projection is harmonized to build a dream-like décor inspired by a surrealist and clownish imaginary. THE SHUBERT ORGANIZATION was founded in 1900 by three brothers from Syracuse, and the company has been in the forefront of the American theatre ever since.
