Kimmel Center's Young Professionals Group "Forte" Hosts Quizzo Trivia Contest on January 24

Forte, the Kimmel Center's newly launched young professionals community, hosts a Quizzo "pub quiz" trivia contest on Saturday, January 24, 2009 at 9:45pm in the Kimmel Center's Cadence Restaurant. The Forte event will award prizes to winning teams, and is scheduled to take place immediately following Radio Stories & Other Stories: An Evening with Ira Glass, the award-winning host of NPR's This American Life presenting a lively, candid evening of storytelling in the Kimmel Center's Verizon Hall.
Quizzo guests will be divided into teams of up to six players for a friendly trivia game led by a local quizmaster. Prizes include: tickets to a Philadelphia Flyers game, tickets to an upcoming Kimmel Center concert and gift certificates to Old Original Bookbinder's restaurant. Guests are also invited to enjoy drink specials such as $2 domestic beers and $3 imported beers, as well as complimentary pub fare, including chicken fingers, nachos, peanuts and pretzels.
A $33 ticket price for each Forte event includes the Kimmel Center Presents performance and Forte pre- or post-show mixer. (No donation or membership fee.) Through Forte, arts and culture enthusiasts ages 21-40 can connect with each other, the performing arts and the Philadelphia region. Themed events—from cocktail receptions to networking mixers—offer opportunities for networking with other performing arts aficionados socially and professionally. Radio host Ira Glass has "reinvented radio" (TIME) through his ability to find humor and drama in stories based on everyday events. Under Glass' editorial direction, This American Life has won the highest honors for broadcasting and journalistic excellence, including the Peabody and DuPont-Columbia Awards. The show had its premiere on Chicago's public radio station WBEZ in late 1995 and is now heard on more than 500 public radio stations each week by over 1.7 million listeners. Most weeks, the podcast of the program is the most popular podcast in America. The American Journalism Review declared that the show is "at the vanguard of a journalistic revolution." In March 2007, the television adaptation of This American Life premiered on Showtime to great critical acclaim and was nominated for three Emmy awards. In May 2008, the radio show was broadcast live to over 300 movie theaters.
