Acme Markets Raises Money for Regional Performing Arts Center
March 2, 1999
The new Regional Performing Arts Center will receive up to $50,000 in construction support thanks to an upcoming Acme Markets promotion.
During the week of March 7 to 13, Acme will donate 10 cents for each purchase of selected Procter & Gamble products to the new Center as a show of support for the Delaware Valley’s rich cultural heritage.
Acme Senior Vice President Craig Herkert said RPAC was chosen as the beneficiary of this unique fundraising effort because of what it will mean to the quality of life in the entire region in the 21st century and beyond.
RPAC Board Chair Willard G. Rouse III, thanked Acme for its generosity and for paving the way for other innovative corporate support of the project, now under construction at Broad and Spruce Sts., and set for completion in the fall of 2001.
"We have been a part of the Delaware Valley for more than a century", said Acme’s Herkert. "During that time, few projects have held the promise for the future that RPAC has. The new facility will truly be world-class, state-of-the-art addition to our region."
In responding to the unique fundraising effort, RPAC Chairman Rouse spoke of the significant regional impact of the new Center.
"As its name suggests, RPAC is an asset for all of our region’s residents, whether they live in Phoenixville or Philadelphia," said Rouse. "Its presence will improve the quality of our lives and have a tremendous impact on our economy."
The new Regional Performing Arts Center will include the venerable Academy of Music and a new, $245 million complex at Broad and Spruce Sts., containing a 2,500-seat Concert Hall, for the Philadelphia Orchestra, and a 650-seat Recital Theater that will be home to Concerto Soloists Chamber Orchestra, the Philadelphia Chamber Music Society, Philadanco, and American Theater Arts for Youth.
The Academy of Music will be home to the Pennsylvania Ballet, the Opera Company of Philadelphia, and an ambitious schedule of touring Broadway shows.
Acme Markets is the largest supermarket chain in the Greater Philadelphia Region. It operates 170 supermarkets in the Delaware Valley and beyond.
