Two- and three-dimensional art work by current Moore students (Melissa Jennings, Nora Litz and Lilian Walsh), recent Moore graduates (Moira Groves, Dae Rebeck, Mary Rakowski and Summer Yates), and Moore faculty (Mary Ann Krutsick, Judith Harold-Steinhauser, Ken Vavrek and Vivian Wolovitz) will be exhibited during The Kimmel Center's Opening Celebration next week and will remain on view through the Spring 2002.
The Moore College of Art & Design Galleries were made possible by an anonymous donor to The Kimmel Center.
"This is an exceptional opportunity to highlight the talent of Moore students, alumnae and faculty. Their original art and design work will gain unprecedented visibility and be enjoyed by an expanded audience of local residents and visitors to Philadelphia. We are honored to represent the visual arts at The Kimmel Center, alongside the most celebrated performing arts from the region and around the world," says Moore's President Happy Fernandez.
Leslie Anne Miller, President of the Regional Performing Arts Center, says, "we are honored and thrilled to join with one of the country's finest schools of art and design, and to exhibit these beautiful and innovative art works. This is an example of the community partnerships that are central to The Kimmel Center's mission."
The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts opens on December 16th at Broad and Spruce Streets on Philadelphia's Avenue of the Arts. It joins the historic Academy of Music to form the Regional Performing Arts Center. The two venues will be home to The Philadelphia Orchestra and seven other premier performing arts groups, and will host great artists and performing groups from around the world.
Founded in 1848, Moore College of Art & Design is the first and only women's visual arts college in the nation granting nine Bachelor of Fine Arts in fashion design, fine arts two- and three- dimensional, graphic design, illustration, interior design, general fine arts and art education, studio art with an art history emphasis and textile design. Moore also offers leading programs for women and men through the Center for Professional Development and Education (CPDE), as well as a Young Artists Workshop (YAW) for girls and boys in grades 1-12. Moore's on-campus Goldie Paley Gallery and Levy Gallery for the Arts in Philadelphia feature innovative work of both established and emerging artists from our city and around the world.
