RPAC Co-Chair Leslie Anne Miller Honored by National Business Leaders with "Women Making History" Award
February 12, 2002
Regional Performing Arts Center Co-Chair Leslie Anne Miller has won the 2002 Women Making History Award from the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO). The Greater Philadelphia Chapter of NAWBO will honor Miller at an awards gala March 5th at The Union League.
Five awards are presented each year by NAWBO to women who have demonstrated their power and influence through examples of professional creativity and innovation, through advocacy for women enabling personal or professional growth, or through strength in overcoming adversity. Other winners this year include Philadelphia City Council President Anna C. Verna, and JoAnne Epps, Associate Dean at Temple University's James E. Beasley School of Law. In previous years, District Attorney Lynne Abraham has received this distinction.
Miller was named Co-Chair of the Regional Performing Arts Center (RPAC) Board of Directors last month after serving eight months as RPAC's interim president. During her tenure as president, Miller successfully negotiated contracts with RPAC's resident companies, guided the organization through the critical final months of fundraising and construction prior to the opening of The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, and oversaw all aspects of The Kimmel Center's spectacular grand opening celebrations in December.
"I am so honored to be recognized by the National Association of Women Business Owners," said Miller, "and I'm proud to lead an organization that has its own tradition of recognizing women leaders. The Regional Performing Arts Center has a long list of talented women promoting the arts and enriching this community through their work at The Kimmel Center and the Academy of Music. I applaud NAWBO for the efforts it makes to ensure that the influence of women in the workplace continues to grow."
Miller is a shareholder in the law firm of McKissock and Hoffman, P.C., specializing in civil litigation and mediation. She recently completed a term as the first female President of the Pennsylvania Bar Association. Miller serves on many community boards including the Pennsylvania Ballet, WHYY, The Free Library of Philadelphia, and The Forum of Executive Women. She is also a member of the board of trustees of Mount Holyoke College and The Dickinson School of Law, both her alma maters.
The Regional Performing Arts Center (RPAC) is a non-profit entity founded in Philadelphia in 1996 to build and operate first-class performing arts facilities for local arts groups and to present special events and concerts featuring visiting performers from around the world. RPAC owns and operates The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts and operates the historic Academy of Music. The two venues create one of the largest performing arts complexes in the world.
