Kimmel Center Presents launches its third season with an exciting opening weekend September 19-21, featuring acclaimed composer and jazz trumpeter Wynton Marsalis and the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, Americaís favorite storyteller Garrison Keillor with the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia and free performances in the Kimmel Centerís Commonwealth Plaza. The season opens Friday, September 19 at 8pm with "the blazing Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra with golden trumpet Wynton Marsalis" (Philadelphia Daily News) on the Verizon Hall stage.

Trumpeter Marsalis, the first jazz composer to win the Pulitzer Prize in music, will be making his third Kimmel Center appearance. The entire Marsalis family (including brothers Wynton, Branford, Delfeayo and Jason and their father, Ellis) played to a sold-out Verizon Hall last March when the Kimmel Center was one of just five U.S. stops on the familyís exclusive, first-ever tour.

Wynton Marsalis and the internationally recognized Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra will perform from a varied repertoire including rare historic compositions and new and commissioned works by some of todayís most visionary jazz musicians. The performance marks the start of the Kimmel Center Presents Mellon Jazz: Fridays series. Ticket prices are $30, $35, $45, $50, $60, $70 & $78.

The Kimmel Center was recently voted Best "Jazz Hot Spot" by Philadelphia magazine in the annual "Best of Philly" issue. On Sunday, September 21 at 3pm Grammy Award-winning poet and storyteller Garrison Keillor makes his Kimmel Center debut. "An Afternoon with Garrison Keillor" will feature the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia, one of the Kimmel Centerís Resident Companies, under the direction of conductor Philip Brunelle.

Author of 13 books and the host of public radioís A Prairie Home Companion, Keillor has entertained audiences across the country. He began his radio career as a freshman at the University of Minnesota in 1962, and first hosted Minnesota Public Radioís A Prairie Home Companion in 1974. The critically acclaimed program, featuring tales of life in the rural Midwest, currently boasts over 3.3 million listeners and is broadcast on more than 500 public radio stations.

For his Verizon Hall performance, Keillor will provide original narrative over classical works including the William Tell Overture and A Midsummer Nightís Dream, offering his own take on life, lakes and love. Tickets are $33, $38, $43, $57, $63 & $68.

Opening weekend will also include two free performances in the Kimmel Centerís Commonwealth Plaza. On Saturday, September 20 at 12:30pm the Enchantment Theatre Company will present "Magik Vaudeville," the story of a Russian immigrant who becomes a vaudeville star, in a performance geared toward families and children. Sunday, September 21 at noon the Superior Ragtime Orchestra performs. Both performances are free and open to the public.
