Kimmel Center President & CEO Janice Price Elected to Board of Directors for the International Society for the Performing Arts

Kimmel Center, Inc. President and CEO Janice Price has been named to the board of directors for the prestigious International Society for the Performing Arts Foundation (ISPA), a not-for-profit international organization whose members include the world’s top cultural leaders.

Price was elected at the organization’s Annual General Meeting, held in London this week.

"After only two years of operation, the Kimmel Center has achieved international recognition for its world class programming and facilities," said Price. "My appointment to the board of ISPA is a reflection of the Kimmel Center’s increasing stature within the international performing arts community."

The 600 members of the International Society for the Performing Arts Foundation include government cultural officials, artists’ managers and executives of concert and performance halls from more than 50 countries in every region of the world.

Founded in 1949, the purpose of ISPA is to develop, nurture, energize and educate the international network of arts leaders and professionals who are dedicated to advancing the field of the performing arts.

Price, former Vice President of Marketing and Communications at New York’s Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, was named president and chief executive officer of Kimmel Center, Inc. on January 3, 2002. In this post, she works with the board and staff of one of Philadelphia’s premiere non-profit institutions to fulfill the organization’s mission of presenting the highest-quality artistic programming; championing access to the arts through education and community outreach; managing and maintaining world-class performance venues including the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts and the Academy of Music; and strengthening the Greater Philadelphia arts community by providing a home for eight resident companies.

Prior to her four-year tenure at Lincoln Center, Price served as senior manager of the Hummingbird Centre for the Performing Arts (formerly the O’Keefe Centre), the Toronto-based home of The National Ballet of Canada and the Canadian Opera Company. From 1992-96, Price was director of marketing and special projects for the Stratford Festival in Canada. From 1989-92, she was director of marketing and communications for the Corporation of Massey Hall and Roy Thomson Hall, home of the Toronto Symphony.

Price’s career also includes extensive television experience. From 1986-89, she served as president of Flying Unicom Productions, a Canadian-based company engaged in the production and distribution of domestic and international programming. From 1984-86, Price was manager of sales for TVOntario, focusing on the distribution of educational sales programs. She began her career at CFO-TV Limited, where she served as both program and promotions manager and talent coordinator from 1978-84.

A lifelong devotee of the arts, Price is a past vice president of the Shakespeare Theatre Association of America and a past board member of both Factory Theatre and the Toronto Dance Theatre in Toronto. In addition, Price served as a board member of United Way of Greater Toronto and the Casey House Foundation of Toronto, a hospice and in-home care facility for people living with AIDS/HIV.

Price is currently a board member of the Philadelphia Convention and Visitor’s Bureau. She also serves on the Board of the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce. Price is an active member of both the Forum of Executive Women and the Professional Women’s Forum. She was appointed by Governor Rendell as a member of the Pennsylvania Travel and Tourism Partnership.

A native of Canada, Price was educated at Trinity College of the University of Toronto
