Kimmel Center’s Critically Acclaimed Fresh Ink Series Presents Two Recitals/One Night with Jennifer Koh and Simone Dinnerstein
January 23, 2004

Violinist Jennifer Koh
Kimmel Center Presents Fresh Ink proudly presents Two Recitals/One Night in the Innovation Studio on Thursday, February 5 at 7:30pm, featuring violinist Jennifer Koh and pianist Simone Dinnerstein. Fresh Ink is the Kimmel Center’s critically acclaimed series for new music launched last fall.

"A risk-taking, high-octane player," is what The Strad calls violinist Jennifer Koh, who has captivated audiences with an artistry and virtuosity beyond her years. Her performance of Beethoven’s violin concerto just three days after September 11th, 2001 garnered praise for her "incandescent power and strong bow," as well as her "radiant nobility" (The Washington Post). Though she is accomplished in traditional classical repertoire, Koh’s devotion to the work of contemporary composers led her to present an adventurous and highly acclaimed recital last month entitled "New York Hardcore" featuring the works of contemporary New York composers. With pianist Reiko Uchida accompanying, Koh will play the works of Elliot Carter, Ornette Coleman, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Charles Wuorinen and Luis Prado at the Kimmel Center’s Innovation Studio.

Simone Dinnerstein made her concerto debut at the Kimmel Center in 2002, playing Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 21 with the Astral Chamber Orchestra led by Stephen D’Agostino. A charismatic and commanding pianist, her playing has been described as "silken," "a gorgeous blend of power and finesse," () and noted for "a nuanced freshness" that is "unusual among today’s young interpreters" (ITALIA). A student of Peter Serkin, Dinnerstein has made a significant impression on the local scene through the concerts of Astral Artistic Services, as well as in the U.K., Germany, and South America. She returns to the Kimmel Center to perform music by George Crumb and Gerald Levinson.

Two Recitals/One Night is presented in collaboration with Astral Artistic Services.

The Fresh Ink series is a new addition to the Kimmel Center Presents roster and promises to provide some of the most artistically interesting performances of the 2003-2004 season. This non-traditional, informal (no tuxedos allowed!) classical music series features 21st century music, exciting young musicians, and inexpensive tickets. Fresh Ink continues with the Orion String Quartet and special guest Tony Award-winning actor John Rubinstein (March 30, 2004) and classical pianist Christopher O’Riley playing the music of British alternative band Radiohead (May 6, 2004).
