The Kimmel Center is pleased to present the Philadelphia debut of The San Francisco Symphony on Wednesday, March 24 at 8pm in Verizon Hall. This performance is part of a 10-concert, seven-city U.S tour. The San Francisco Symphony is conducted by Michael Tilson Thomas.

Since 1911, San Francisco has nurtured this great America orchestra. Music Director Michael Tilson Thomas, a noted conductor and composer since the age of 19, is an international award-winner who has worked with such musical icons as Stravinsky, Copland, Heifetz and Bernstein. The program includes Robin Holloway’s orchestration of Debussy’s En blanc et noir and Mahler’s Symphony No. 5.

On March 2, Tilson Thomas and the San Francisco Symphony released a new recording of Mahler’s Symphony No. 4, featuring soprano Laura Claycomb. The disc is the fourth installment in an ambitious Mahler recording project which includes plans to record all of the composer’s nine symphonies and the Adagio from the unfinished Tenth Symphony. Tilson Thomas and the San Francisco Symphony were recently awarded a Grammy in this year’s Best Classical Album category for their recording of Mahler’s Symphony No. 3 coupled with the song cycle Kindertotenlieder, with mezzo-soprano Michelle DeYoung.

Tickets for the March 24th performance of The San Francisco Symphony are $32, $45, $58, $68, $78, $98 and $113.
