Kimmel Center Presents Wachovia Classics: Master Musicians Piano Series Welcomes Murray Perahia to Verizon Hall April 25

Kimmel Center Presents Wachovia Classics: Master Musicians concludes its piano series with Murray Perahia in Verizon Hall on Sunday, April 25 at 2pm.

Born in New York, Murray Perahia is the award-winning protégé of the great Vladimir Horowitz. He has been performing for more than 30 years and has become one of the most sought-after and cherished pianists of our time. On March 8, 2004, Her Majesty The Queen of England awarded an honorary KBE to Perahia, in recognition of his outstanding service to music. Murray Perahia is famed for his renditions of Bach, Chopin and Mozart and he performs in all of the major international music centers with every leading orchestra. He is the Principal Guest Conductor of the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields, with whom he has toured as conductor and pianist throughout the United States, Japan and South East Asia. Murray Perahia’s most recent recording, the complete Etudes, Op. 10 and Op. 25 of Chopin, was nominated for a 2003 Grammy for Best Instrumental Solo Performance. His recording of Bach’s "Goldberg Variations" received two Grammy nominations and won the 2001 Gramophone Award for Best Instrumental Recording. In 1999 Perahia won a Grammy for his recording of Bach’s English Suites (Nos. 1, 3 and 6).

Perahia’s program on April 25 will include Beethoven’s Sonata No. 28 in A Major, Op.101; Schumann’s Fantasiestücke, Op. 12; and Brahms’ Variations (25) and Fugue on a Theme of Handel in B flat major, Op. 24.

Tickets for Murray Perahia in Verizon Hall on Sunday, April 25 at 2pm are $28, $33, $38, $43, $51, $59 and $68.

A limited number of $10 tickets will be available for every Kimmel Center Presents performance at the Kimmel Center. $10 tickets go on sale the day of the event and can be purchased at the Kimmel Center box office beginning at 5:30pm for evening performances and 11:30am for matinees. Limit one per person.
