Kimmel Center Presents Zurich’s Tonhalle Orchestra at Verizon Hall May 2, 2004

The Tonhalle Orchestra of Zurich will perform at The Kimmel Center as part of a United States tour. It will be only the second time this historic Swiss Orchestra has visited the States with David Zinman. The Tonhalle Orchestra was founded in 1868 with Friedrich Hegar as its conductor. In 1995, American David Zinman was appointed Chief Conductor of the Tonhalle Orchestra and Artistic Director of the Tonhalle Society. He is also Music Director of the Aspen Music Festival and School. With David Zinman the orchestra has undertaken a number of successful concert tours. In addition to its concerts at home and its touring schedule, David Zinman and the Tonhalle Orchestra are devoting increasing time to recording projects, such as the orchestral works of Arthur Honegger, Mozart’s violin concertos as well as the complete Beethoven symphonies and the complete symphonic works of Richard Strauss.
The program on May 2nd will consist of Honegger’s Pastoral d’été; Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 9; and Strauss’ Ein Heldenleben. The celebrated Norwegian pianist Leif Ove Andsnes will be the soloist. "... for me the most accomplished pianist of the new generation." (The New York Times)
Tickets for the May 2 performance of The Tonhalle Orchestra are $32, $45, $58, $68, $78, $98 and $113.
Tickets may be purchased by calling 215-893-1999, online at www.kimmelcenter.org or at the Kimmel Center box office, open daily from 10am to 6pm and later on performance evenings. For group sales call 215-790-5883.
A limited number of $10 tickets will be available for every Kimmel Center Presents performance at the Kimmel Center. $10 tickets go on sale the day of the event and can be purchased at the Kimmel Center box office beginning at 5:30pm for evening performances and 11:30am for matinees. Limit one per person.
