John Medeski, Billy Martin & Chris Wood have been playing their unique layered sound together since 1991, with Medeski on keyboards, Martin on drums and percussion and Wood on upright and electric bass. This trio’s music is progressive, jazzy, raw, funky, experimental and danceable all at the same time. Their first album was released in 1993 and their ninth studio album is due out this spring, recorded in both their Brooklyn, NY studio and in Los Angeles with producer John King.
The Bad Plus is comprised of bassist Reid Anderson, pianist Ethan Iverson and drummer David King. They released their major-label debut CD These Are The Vistas last year to rave reviews. Tickets for the May 7 performance by Medeski, Martin & Wood with special guests The Bad Plus are $23, $28, $36, $43, $48, $53 & $63 and can be purchased by calling 215-893-1999, online at www.kimmelcenter.org or at the Kimmel Center box office, open daily from 10am to 6pm and later on performance evenings. A limited number of $10 tickets will be available for every Kimmel Center Presents performance at the Kimmel Center. $10 tickets go on sale the day of the event and can be purchased at the Kimmel Center box office beginning at 5:30pm for evening performances and 11:30am for matinees. Limit one per person.
