100% New, Fresh and Zesty: Jackie Mason Freshly Squeezed will make Philadelphia Premiere at the Academy of Music
Pre-Broadway Tour Visits Philadelphia November 17-21
October 11, 2004

Armed with all-new material, the reigning king of one-man shows on the Broadway stage—the irascible, irreplaceable and incomparable Jackie Mason—will bring his 7th one-man comedy tour de force, Jackie Mason Freshly Squeezed to The Academy of Music November 17- 21. The production is part of The Kimmel Center Presents Citizens Bank Broadway at the Academy 2004 - 2005 theater series.

Tickets ranging from $25 to $62.50 with a limited number of $85 box seats, can be purchased by calling 215-893-1999, online at www.kimmelcenter.org/broadway, or in person at either the Kimmel Center box office (open daily 10am to 6pm and later on performance evenings), or at the Academy of Music box office on performance afternoons and evenings only. The performance schedule is Wednesday through Saturday evening (Nov. 17-20) at 8pm, and Sunday (Nov. 21) afternoon at 2pm.

The show, conceived, written and directed by Jackie Mason, garnered raves from critics in an April run at the Auditorium Theater in Chicago, and honed on the road in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom, will begin previews on Broadway at the Helen Hayes Theater on March 8, 2005.

"Mason’s signature set pieces—wherein he huffs and puffs, layering laughs as he tackles an absurd situation from all sides with ever-increasing intensity—are new and fresh," said Chris Jones in The Chicago Tribune. "(It is) his most manic show in years, and also his best..."

"Just when you think you know everything there is to know about Jackie Mason—the man arrives at the Auditorium Theatre and proceeds to deliver material that is wholly surprising, fearless and even mildly subversive," said Chicago Sun Times theater critic Hedy Weiss. "...he was in fine form and the classic sense of the absurdity of modern life that invariably makes Mason tick was in full force..."

"I am excited about getting back to what I do best and what my audience likes best," said Mason, "I am writing new jokes everyday and I’m telling them every night. It’s been great ... just me ... one Jew talking and that’s it."

Jackie Mason Freshly Squeezed focuses on, among other new topics, same-sex marriages, stock market fraud, celebrities on trial, the epidemic of new diets and, in an election year, politics, politics and more politics.

The road to Broadway began in April in Chicago and Mason continues to develop new material with appearances in Montreal, Toronto, Atlanta, Indianapolis, Columbus, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Baltimore, Washington, DC, Philadelphia and Los Angeles, among others, before heading to Broadway.

Mason, widely regarded as one of the greatest stand-up comics of all time, will return to Broadway in 2005 in the format that made him a megastar, the one-man show, a format in which he’s had six commercial and critical successes for which he has received a Tony, a Grammy, an Emmy and awards from the Drama Desk and the Outer Critics Circle.
