A Colonial Holiday Launches Kimmel’s ‘See Hear!’ Series
December 3, 2004

Kimmel Center Presents kicks off its brand new ‘See Hear!’ series this month beginning with A Colonial Holiday, the first in a program of innovative multi-media events which incorporate creative visual with theatrical elements on stage. A Colonial Holiday premieres in the Perelman Theater on December 17 at 7:30pm.

Pioneered by Philadelphia conductor Marc Mostovoy and Kimmel Center Presents, ‘See Hear!’ will strive to broaden the appeal of classical music to more diverse audiences by the unique collaboration of various art forms with today’s multimedia technology.

"A Colonial Holiday will perfectly demonstrate how visuals can greatly enhance a concert performance," said Mostovoy. "We plan to go even further with the visual element in our future See Hear concerts at the Kimmel Center."

A Colonial Holiday will take audiences on a musical and visual journey back to early Colonial days during the time of the Revolutionary War and move into present day through a unique combination of elements including musicians, vocalists, actors, historians, educators, musicologists, video and sound specialists. The family concert will feature the Girard Academic Music Program (GAMP) High School choir, vocal soloists from the Academy of Vocal Arts, a 20-piece orchestra conducted by Mostovoy, a holiday sing-a-long, and even Ben Franklin and his glass armonica.

Upcoming concerts in the ‘See Hear!’ series include "World to Come" featuring cellist Maya Beiser accompanied by audiotape and video projections (February 10, 2005); four dance events with Urban Tap dance company which combines rapid-fire tap, hip hop and capoeira dance with dynamic live video and music (April 7-9, 2005); and "Musical Visions" a collaboration of musicians and visual artists which will feature works by Stravinsky, Bach and a world premiere by Jeremy Gill (May 19, 2005).

"We are excited to have the opportunity to present music and dance in innovative and experimental ways", said Mervon Mehta, Vice President of Programming and Education for the Kimmel Center.

"The artists that are appearing on this series are bold, risk takers and our audiences will get to see and hear new art forms being created on our stages. We are also extremely grateful for the generosity of the Albert and Stephanie Wolf Foundation for their support of this project."
