Kimmel Center Presents Fourth Season Closes with Musical Visions
Fresh Ink & “See Hear!” Program to Include Works by Mozart, Bach, Stravinsky, Varese, and Gill
May 4, 2005

Conductor Jeri Lynne Johnson and visual director
Tickets for Musical Visions are $21 and $26 and can be purchased by calling 215-893-1999 or online at www.kimmelcenter.org.
In an effort to make the classical music concert experience more engaging and less intimidating, each piece during the concert will include multimedia or visual effects that will tie in with the theme of the work. Johnson, Gyulai and Gill also want the audience to understand the stylistic and musical connections between the pieces, specifically the way in which Stravinsky’s work imitates Bach’s, or the way in which the opening movement of Varese’s piece ties in to the last movement of Stravinsky’s. The world premiere of Gill’s composition, which evokes nature and the wild, also emulates Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring.
A former student of the esteemed conductor Daniel Barenboim, Jeri Lynne Johnson earned high praise during her four-year tenure as The Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia’s Assistant Conductor. From 2001-2004, Johnson led world premieres of several commissions, including works with the orchestra and multimedia commissions with Gyulai.
Philadelphia native and Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts graduate Peggy Gyulai’s paintings and digital media commissions have been featured in numerous corporate and private collections in the U.S. and Europe. A former Artist-in-Residence at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Gyulai created a series of paintings for performances of The Philadelphia Orchestra at the Academy of Music during their centennial season, and has been a guest speaker at the Kimmel Center and a co-host for a Philadelphia Orchestra program for youths.
Former assistant conductor and composer-in-residence with the Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra, Jeremy Gill received a BM in composition from the Eastman School of Music in 1996, and a PhD in composition at the University of Pennsylvania in 2000. His work has been commissioned and performed by musical institutions across the U.S., and in France and the Czech Republic. Gill’s numerous awards include two BMI Student Composer Awards, two ASCAP Morton Gould Young Composers Awards, and. a residency grant from Meet the Composer and the American Symphony Orchestra League.
