The performance highlights three Broadway Junior offerings --- The Music Man, Dear Edwina, and Into The Woods. Performances are scheduled for January 17 – 20 at the Gershman Y, 401 S. Broad Street, Philadelphia, twice daily at 10 am & 12 noon. Tickets are affordably priced at $8 and $14. For group information contact: groupsales@kimmelcenter.org

After Schoolsical Special is meant to inspire both teachers and students alike to get involved in the school’s theatre program. At the same time, the show teaches important lessons for students including team work, negotiating, and listening.

Before seeing After Schoolsical Special, teachers are invited to a free workshop on January 7 at the Merck Arts Education Center at the Kimmel Center. New York-based professionals from Music Theatre International (MTI) will present interactive teacher workshops from 9:30 am – 3:30 pm. Teachers will be instructed on how to present a school musical and integrate the arts into all curriculums. All elements of musical theater production are covered including casting, staging, directing, music, choreography, costumes, sets and lighting.

During the workshop teachers can select Broadway Junior titles to present. These scripts are edited specifically for younger performers. Titles include: (for Elementary Schools) Disney’s Cinderella; Disney’s The Jungle Book; Disney’s 101 Dalmations; and (for Middle/Jr.High Schools) Disney’s Aladdin; Annie; Bugsy; Dear Edwina; Fiddler on the Roof; Godspell; Guys and Dolls; Honk; Into the Woods; The Music Man; Once on This Island; The Pirates of Penzance; and Schoolhouse Rock Live!

With the selection of a script from the Broadway Junior Collection, educators are also supplied with a ‘ShowKit’ that includes Student Scripts, Rehearsal and Performance CD, Piano/Vocals book, Director’s Script, Choreographic Video or DVD, and ‘Family Matters’ booklets for students to take home to their parents.
