Two-Time Grammy Award Winner to Perform at the Kimmel Center

International cabaret sensation Sylvia McNair will perform an exquisite list of romantic standards during a special Valentine’s Day concert on Tuesday, February 14, 2005 at 8:30pm in Perelman Theater. A former opera singer, McNair will perform the songs of Rodgers, Sondheim, Arlen and Mercer with flawless precision and cabaret style. A champagne dinner is also available in the Kimmel Center’s Cadence Restaurant prior to the show.

This performance is a part of Kimmel Presents’ Sovereign Bank World Pop series. Upcoming performances in the series include Ladysmith Black Mambazo with Vusi Mahlasela on February 19, 2006 at 3pm; There’s More to Mozart than Amadeus with Jeffrey Siegel on February, 2006 at 7:30pm; and The Academy of St. Martin in the Fields conducted by Gil Shaham on February 28, 2006 at 8pm.

Sylvia McNair is a classically trained international cabaret star who holds a Masters with Distinction from the Indiana University School of Music. Her official shift from opera to cabaret music is a relatively recent one that began with her debut at the Algoquin’s Oak Room. A recipient of the Governor’s Award for Outstanding Achievement in Arts and Entertainment from Ohio Governor Bob Taft in 1999, McNair also holds honorary doctorates from Westminster College (1997) and Indiana University (1998) as well as an impressive performance history that includes singing the Bach B-minor Mass for Pope John Paul II at The Vatican, singing for Hilary Clinton, and a recital at The U.S. Supreme Court by special invitation from former Justice Sandra Day O’Connor.

A limited number of $10 tickets are available for all Kimmel Center Presents performances at the Kimmel Center. Tickets go on sale the day of the event and can be purchased 2.5 hours prior to evening performances and at 11:30am for matinees.
