Gil Shaham is an outstanding virtuoso who toured Europe with the Philadelphia Orchestra and Christoph Eschenbach during the 2003/2004 season. At the age of 10, he made his debuts with the Jerusalen Symphony and Isreal Philharmonic orchestras. A recipient of the 1990 Avery Fisher Career Grant, he won a Grammy Award in 1998 for his recital album “American Scenes” with André Previn and earned two Grammy nominations for his 1999 recording of Bartok’s Second Concerto with Pierre Boulez and the Chicago Symphony.
The Academy of St. Martin in the Fields was formed in 1958 as a chamber ensemble that concentrated on works written during the Baroque period. Led by violinist Sir Neville Marriner, the ensemble helped propel the Baroque revival of the 1960s and later grew to explore more symphonic repertoire. A world renowned ensemble boasting a discography that easily exceeds 500 entries, the Academy was chosen to perform during the official 1997 hand-over ceremony in Hong Kong, opened the first subscription series at Los Angeles’ new Walt Disney Hall and recorded the multi-award winning soundtrack for the film Amadeus.
A limited number of $10 tickets are available for every Kimmel Center Presents performance at the Kimmel Center. Tickets go on sale the day of the event and can be purchased at the Kimmel Center box office beginning 2.5 hours prior to evening performances and 11:30am for matinees.
