Midori To Perform on Kimmel Center Fresh Ink Series
March 30, 2006

Violinist Midori comes to Philadelphia for her debut appearance on the Kimmel Center’s Fresh Ink Series in Perelman Theater as part of her 2005/06 U.S. tour devoted to the new music recital repertoire, on Saturday, April 22, 2006 at 7:30pm. The program will feature Music for 247 Strings by Weir; Sonata No.1 by Yun; Suite by Goehr, Tri Pezzi per violine e pianoforte, Op.14e by Kurtág; and Partita by Lutoslawski.

"For years I have been researching repertoire and formulating ideas about how best to perform and present the music of our time," says Midori. "Finally I have had the good fortune to be able to put some of these ideas into action."

Regular tickets for Midori are $41 and $31, and can be purchased by calling 215-893-1999, online or at the Kimmel Center Box Office, open daily from 10am to 6pm and later on performance evenings. (Additional fees may apply) For group sales call 215-893-5883.

A limited number of $10 tickets are available for every Kimmel Center Presents performance at the Kimmel Center. Tickets go on sale the day of the event and can be purchased at the Kimmel Center box office beginning 2.5 hours prior to evening performances and 11:30am for matinees.

Midori made her debut at age eleven as a surprise guest artist at the New York Philharmonic’s annual New Year’s Eve concert in 1982. At the age of 14, The New York Times proclaimed her to have conquered Tanglewood with three violins as she had had to complete her performance using not only her violin but the concertmaster’s and the associate concertmaster’s when she broke 2 E strings during the fifth movement of Bernstein’s Serenade after Plato’s ‘Symposium’ for Solo Violin, String Orchestra, Harp and Percussion. An outstanding performer, Midori is also generous and possesses a high level of social consciousness. In 1992, she founded Midori & Friends, a non-profit organization in New York and she is currently also involved in Music Sharing and Partners in Performance, all of which are organizations working to bring music into the lives of people who may otherwise not have had the opportunity to become involved in the arts.
