Perlman and Zukerman Join Forces for a Spectacular Night of String Performance

Superstar musicians violinist Itzhak Perlman and violinist/violist Pinchas Zukerman, who epitomize the true master musicians of our time, join musical forces to perform a special duo recital on Sunday, April 23, 2006 at 2pm in Verizon Hall as part of the Kimmel Center Presents Master Musician String series. They will be accompanied by pianist Rohan De Silva in a program that features Bach’s Sonata for 2 Violins & Continuo in C Major, MWB 1037; Mozart’s Duo for Violin and Viola in G Major, K. 423; Leclair’s Sonata for 2 Violins in F Major, Op.3, No.4; and Moszkowski’s Suite for 2 Violins & Piano, Op. 71.

Tickets for Perlman and Zukerman are $85, $72, $59, $47, $39, and $34, and can be purchased by calling 215-893-1999, online or at the Kimmel Center Box Office, open daily from 10am to 6pm and later on performance evenings. (Additional fees may apply) For group sales call 215-893-5883.

A limited number of $10 tickets are available for every Kimmel Center Presents performance at the Kimmel Center. Tickets go on sale the day of the event and can be purchased at the Kimmel Center box office beginning 2.5 hours prior to evening performances and 11:30am for matinees.

Itzhak Perlman is celebrated not only as a violinist but also as a conductor. Born in Israel in 1945, he first appeared on the international stage with an appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show in 1958. While he has performed numerous concerts around the world, he has maintained his connection to television by appearing in numerous PBS documentaries, for which he has been honored with four Emmy Awards. In addition, he has entertained millions with appearances on such shows such as Sesame Street, performed live with Yo-Yo Ma on the 73rd and solo on the 78th Academy Awards telecast, and collaborated with John Williams in Steven Spielberg’s Schindler’s List.

Born in Tel Aviv, Pinchas Zukerman is a musical Reannaisance man who is respected as a violinist, violist, conductor, pedagogue, and chamber musician. He began studying music as a child with Ilona Feher, after which he came to America on scholarship at The Julliard School with the support of Isaac Stern, Pablo Casals, and the America-Israel and Helena Rubenstein Foundations. The first recipient of the Isaac Stern Award for Artistic Excellence at the New York City National Arts Awards Gala in October 2002, he has also earned 21 Grammy nominations and two awards for his virtuosic playing. He is also the Music Director of the National Arts Center Orchesta in Ottawa, Ontario.

Rohan De Silva, a native of Sri Lanka, began his piano studies with his mother before proceeding to the Royal Academy of Music in London where he received numerous prizes and scholarships as well as the Chappell Gold Medal. Held in high acclaim for his sophisticated interpretation in collaborative work, he was awarded a special prize as Best Accompanist at the 1990 Ninth International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow and the Samuel Sanders Collaborative Artist Award in 2005.
