Indigo Girls Make Their Kimmel Center Debut, Showcasing Their New Album Despite Our Differences
September 11, 2006

Indigo Girls
After 20 years of performing together and building an enduringly loyal fan base, Indigo Girls have much to celebrate with the upcoming release of their 10th album, Despite Our Differences (to be released September 19). Performing in Kimmel Center's Verizon Hall on Tuesday, October 10, 2006 at 8pm, both Amy Ray and Emily Saliers have evolved their vast catalog of music from signature hits "Become You" and "Closer to Fine" to include a combination of warm acoustic guitars, swirling keyboard sounds, and the trademark flair of the duo’s intertwined vocals.

Tickets for the Indigo Girls are $40 and can be purchased by calling 215-893-1999, online at www.kimmelcenter.org, or at the Kimmel Center box office, open daily from 10am to 6pm and later on performance evenings. (Additional fees may apply). For group sales call 215-893-5883.

A limited number of $10 tickets are available for every Kimmel Center Presents performance at the Kimmel Center. Tickets go on sale the day of the event and can be purchased at the Kimmel Center box office beginning 2.5 hours prior to curtain time and 11:30am for matinees. Limit one ticket per person.

Indigo Girls is the third concert of the World Pop Mix. The next performance in the series is Emmylou Harris on Sunday, October 15, 2006 at 7:30pm.

In support of various social-justice causes, Indigo Girls bring environmental consciousness into the everyday reality and matters of the heart. Their inspiring energy is poured into every song; each piece varying in scope and literary meaning – ranging from echoing the needs of a Native American community in the piece "Cordova," the unusually dark account of relationship betrayals in "Come on Home," the classic rock tunes within "Tether," or the nostalgic mood created in"“Something Real" from their 2004 album All That We Let In.

The New York Times praises the Indigo Girls, writing that they "…possess voices that are unflinching in pitch and emotive timbre, which they combine in harmonies that lock tighter than a battle line" and Rolling Stone adds, "Their voices soar and swoop as one…and when they sing together, they radiate a sense of shared purpose…"

In their first two decades, the legendary and highly accomplished Indigo Girls have received seven Grammy® nominations, sold more than 12 million albums, received critical acclaim, and developed a devoted fan base. Bringing signature songs including "Become You," "Galileo," and "Closer to Fine," the Indigo Girls are also known for performing "rare" songs live, giving their fans a little something extra. Having a long history of contributing tracks to benefits and tributes, the Indigo Girls also perform covers of songs during concerts and on their albums. Regardless of which way the pop culture breezes are blowing or who is getting played on the radio, Indigo Girls' concert experience remains a constant, proving the meaning of an enduring artist-audience bond. Indigo Girls have thrived through flirtations with the mainstream as well as when the media spotlight was pointed elsewhere. The much-anticipated Indigo Girls album Despite Our Differences is due to be released on September 19.
