Estampas Porteñas was founded in Buenos Aires in 1996 by the distinguished Argentine ballerina and choreographer, Carolina Soler. In its first year, Estampas Porteñas toured China performing over 60 successful shows. On its return to Argentina, the company performed at the Cultural Centre General San Martin, enjoying popular and critical acclaim being described as "…dazzling the audience with talent, seduction and beauty." Estampas Porteñas has performed at festivals around the world including the Caribbean Festival, the Havana Festival of the National Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba, Recoleta Viva Festival in Buenos Aires and the Beloruss Festival. In August 2005, the show Tango Fire was presented at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. The company has toured in Asia, Europe, South Africa, Latin America, and more recently returned to Australia in May of 2005 for a 16 city tour with their new show Tango Fire. Estampas Porteñas is pleased to be making its debut in the United States on a 33 city cross-country tour.

Beginning her career in classical ballet, Carolina Soler was well known and widely celebrated for her dazzling portrayals of traditional classical ballet roles. Born in Lima, Peru, Ms. Soler entered the Choreartium Association Ballet in 1972, where she performed as a soloist and principal ballerina before completing her studies with masters such as Alexander Plissetky, Annel Vourenjuvry, Victori Roma and Yele Krnic- recording successes as a soloist in Swan Lake, Raymonda, Coppelia, and Interplay and as principal in Suite en Blanc, Paquita, Hansel & Gretel, Nocturnal and Giselle. In 1978 she joined the resident ballet of the Teatro Colon where she had the opportunity to perform all the major works of the classical repertoire, winning plaudits as a prima ballerina in Aurora’s Wedding, Swan Lake, Coppelia, Don Quixote, Romeo & Juliet, Dvorák’s Serenade and Emilia. She also danced for the Choreographic Workshop, working with Julio López and Rodolfo Olguin; performed with the Argentine Ballet and the Modern Jazz Ballet, touring nationally and internationally with the companies. Her interest in tango began when she performed Tango Dance with Raul Garello, resulting in the 1996 formation of Estampas Porteñas. Carolina has undertaken the role of choreographer, principal dancer, and artistic director of the company. In Estampas Porteñas, she returns to the dance form showcasing the complexity of passion between man and woman.
