Dennis DeYoung, founding member of the band STYX, has been a singer, songwriter keyboardist, and producer for over four decades, and has to his credit such rock classics as: "Best of Times," "Show Me the Way," "Mr. Roboto." "The Grand Illusion," "Don’t Let It End," "Babe," among others. STYX has sold over 35 million albums and scored 10 top 10 hits worldwide. It is the only band ever to record four consecutive triple platinum albums. DeYoung has also recorded four solo albums, and appeared in the 25th anniversary production of Andrew Lloyd Webber's Jesus Christ Superstar. He was nominated for a Joseph Jefferson Award for best supporting actor in a musical for his role as Pontius Pilate. While performing in Superstar, De Young was approached by Atlantic Records to sing and produce 10 on Broadway, a compilation of his favorite Broadway songs.
His affection for musical theater prompted him to write The Hunchback of Notre Dame, based on Victor Hugo’s novel. The musical was picked up by Nashville’s Tennessee Repertory Theatre in 1997 to glowing reviews. In 2000, DeYoung began touring select cities with a 50-piece symphony orchestra and rock band, combining rock with Broadway.
In 2002, WTTW PBS Chicago taped DeYoung performing with his rock band, a full symphony orchestra and The Chicago Children’s Choir for PBS’ Soundstage. DeYoung’s Soundstage pledge program aired nationwide on PBS stations, and a DVD of this performance was recorded. In April 2003, DeYoung performed and recorded an extended version of the symphony show at the historic Chicago Theatre. This 2-hour double live CD album is a retrospective of DeYoung’s career, and includes "Hello God," one of three new studio tracks on the album. In 2006, Dennis DeYoung’s DVD went triple platinum and CD platinum in Canada.
More recently, Dennis DeYoung has appeared in Canadian Idol and two episodes of FOX TV’s Celebrity Duets. He was one of three artists selected to perform in the finale of Celebrity Duets with Smokey Robinson and Gladys Knight.
One of the most recognizable vocal talents in the world, DeYoung's songs have recently enjoyed a remarkable resurgence in popularity, featured in pop culture iconic television shows and motion pictures. "The Best of Times," "Come Sail Away" and "Babe" were featured in Adam Sandler’s hit film Big Daddy. "Come Sail Away" was also a South Park smash, featuring a six-minute version sung by Cartman and Isaac Hayes. DeYoung’s songs were also featured in The Simpsons, Dharma and Gregg, E.R., King of Queens, Sex in the City, Austin Powers: Goldmember, Old School, Virgin Suicides and Disney's Atlantis.
