December 11, 2006

Patrons Can Enjoy Brunch, Warm Seasonal Delights and Panoramic Views of the Parade

Kimmel Center once again opens its doors to families and Mummer’s Parade watchers on New Year’s Day. Parade goers can enjoy the warmth of the indoors, warm up with an assortment of refreshments and brunch offerings, and watch the parade from the Cadence Restaurant balcony. Families may enjoy free entertainment throughout the day, and let children out of strollers to stretch their legs. Doors open at 10am for this indoor New Year’s Day celebration on Monday, January 1, 2007, and ends at 6pm.

“We invite families and children to come and enjoy the Kimmel Center’s New Year’s Day festivities, as we join the Philadelphia tradition of the Mummer’s New Year’s Day parade on Broad Street,” said Natalye Paquin, Acting President and COO of the Kimmel Center. “We are excited to be a part of this festive celebration in Center City, and to be located in the heart of the Mummer’s parade.”

On the ground level, the Peco Café in Commonwealth Plaza will be open and providing freshly prepared sandwiches with vegetarian options, hot dogs and soft pretzels, warm soups, salads, along with hot chocolate, Philly-brewed beer, wine, and specialty martinis. Free in the Plaza events will take place from 11am to 4pm,including Bubboon’s Tunes, who will be performing hits like "The Cheese Song" and "The Blather Song." According to the School Library Journal, "[Their] songs are completely goofy and ridiculous, and children will find them vastly entertaining." Octavia will also perform a blues/jazz mix with the harmonica, along with keyboardist Marty Mellinger. PA Musician Magazine says, "Octavia’s blues harp playing is freakishly good…Her vocals are a sultry combination of velvet and gravel, capable of morphing from a hushed vulnerability into an indignant, bellowing roar."
