Wayne Marshall Debuts at the Kimmel Center as Part of the Master Musicians Organ Recital Series March 14
March 7, 2007

"Marshall has the measure of Lisztian virtuosity" — The Times (London)
Free at the Kimmel Pianist Leonardo Locatelli will perform classical selections on Commonwealth Plaza stage at 6:30pm
British organist Wayne Marshall makes his Kimmel Center debut at the console of Verizon Hall’s new Fred J. Cooper Memorial Organ on Wednesday, March 14 at 8pm. Marshall is Organist in Residence of Manchester’s Bridgewater Hall in England, and draws on an exceptionally large and varied repertoire, particularly favoring the French Romantics. He has appeared throughout the UK, Europe, North America and the Far East, including such major centers as Dresden, Leipzig, Vienna, Paris, London, and Tokyo. Recent recitals have included the inauguration of the organ in Los Angeles’ new Disney Hall. His program will include Liszt’s Fantasy and Fugue on the Hymn "Ad nos, ad salutarem undam," Dupré’s Symphony No. 2, Bernstein’s overture to Wonderful Town, Verdi’s overture to Un Ballo in Maschera, Strauss’s overture to Die Fledermaus, Verdi’s overture to La Traviata, and Tchaikovsky’s Polonnaise from Eugene Onegin, and he will end the program with a series of improvisations
A new feature in the Organ Recital Series is the use of the multiple high-definition cameras situated throughout Verizon Hall. Audiences will be able to see up-close pedal work and multiple performer and console keyboard angles as Wayne Marshall navigates his way through complex changes in organ stops and colorations, all digitally projected on two large screens hanging over the stage in Verizon Hall.
A pre-concert artist chat will take place in Verizon Hall with organist Wayne Marshall and Michael Barone, host of American Public Media’s "Pipedreams."
This is the final organ recital this season in the Kimmel Center’s Master Musicians Organ Recital Series. The Master Musicians Organ Recitals are generously supported by the Philadelphia Chapter of the American Guild of Organists.
