David Hayes Leads The Philadelphia Singers in a Performance of Handel’s Israel in Egypt with Members of The Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia at the Kimmel Center on March 31
March 15, 2007

This program also incorporates a digitally projected video presentation of art and artifacts of ancient Egypt through the 19th century. Each image depicts the Exodus in the context of the artist’s time period and culture. Included are images from Jewish and Christian medieval illuminated manuscripts. The juxtaposition of such diverse art, all based on the same story, dramatically demonstrates mankind’s continued fascination with this remarkable event in human history. This performance is part of the See Hear! Initiative, featuring the multimedia artistic direction of Marc Mostovoy.
An Artist Chat will take place in the Perelman Theater following the ticketed performance with David Hayes, Marc Mostovoy, multi-media director for the performance, and Kimmel Center Director of Programming Tom Warner.
This is the nineteenth performance in the Classical series. The next performance is From the Top on Tuesday, April 10, 2007 at 8pm. This performance is part of the See Hear! Initiative, featuring the multimedia artistic direction of Marc Mostovoy. This performance of Israel in Egypt is supported in part by the Wolf/Mostovoy Initiative.
