Grammy® Lifetime Achievement Award Recipient Art Garfunkel Performs at the Kimmel Center on April 7
March 30, 2007

Grammy® "Lifetime Achievement Award" recipient Art Garfunkel performs at the Kimmel Center’s Verizon Hall as part of the Verizon World Pop Mix 2006/07 series on Saturday, April 7 at 8pm. Revered for Grammy®-winning, chart-topping hits such as "Mrs. Robinson" featured in 1967 cult classic film The Graduate, Art Garfunkel became a pop culture icon with music partner Paul Simon of Simon & Garfunkel, and afterwards embarked on a successful solo career of his own. Most recently, Garfunkel has released his 12th solo album Some Enchanted Evening (January 2007). Inspired by his experiences as a father, his latest album moves through a series of soothing, uplifting selections from the American popular songbook including "Someone To Watch over Me" by George and Ira Gershwin, "What’ll I Do" by Irving Berlin, and "Let’s Fall In Love" by Harold Arlen and Ted Koehler. His performance will explore his legacy of pop hits such as "Bridge Over Troubled Water" and "Scarborough Fair" with selections from his recent album, Some Enchanted Evening.
Art Garfunkel is the seventeenth concert in the Verizon World Pop Mix series. The next concert in the series is Jerry Blavat’s Doo Wop Reunion on Sunday, April 15, 2007 at 7:30pm.
Tickets for Art Garfunkel are $40, $51, $61 and can be purchased by calling 215-893-1999, online at www.kimmelcenter.org, or at the Kimmel Center box office, open daily from 10pm to 6pm and later on performance evenings. (Additional fees may apply.) For group sales call 215-790-5883.

Art Garfunkel performed in talent shows at 11 years-old and by the time he was in high school he had dedicated his time rehearsing in his basement with future world renowned musical partner of Simon & Garfunkel, Paul Simon. Their senior year in high school, they appeared on American Bandstand with their first 45, "Hey, Schoolgirl." While Garfunkel sought a path towards a "decent living" by earning a bachelor’s degree in Art History and a Master’s degree in Mathematics at Columbia University, he always kept singing and soon met up with Paul Simon again in 1963 to sign with Columbia Records as Simon & Garfunkel. Between 1964-1970 Simon & Garfunkel gained a loyal international audience and received five Grammy® awards together. Their greatest hits collection, which includes "Mrs. Robinson," "Scarborough Fair," "The Sound of Silence," "The Boxer" and "Bridge Over Troubled Water," among others, is the biggest selling album ever by a duo. In 2000 Simon & Garfunkel’s Greatest Hits album certified Diamond with over 10 million units sold.
Art Garfunkel went on to be featured in acting roles in Catch-22 (1969) and Carnal Knowledge (1971) directed by Mike Nichols, whom he worked with for The Graduate soundtrack. His solo music career began with a long awaited first album titled Angel Clare (1973). Garfunkel established a pattern for his future albums by choosing the finest compositions by the best songwriters. His second album Breakaway (1975) featured the hit "I Only Have Eyes For You" reached No.1 in the United Kingdom and attained Platinum certification.
Highlights of the 1990’s include his song "Two Sleepy People" for the soundtrack of the film A League of Their Own (1992), a feature role in the controversial film Boxing Helena (1993) directed by Jennifer Lynch, international tour returning to the Far East, and a trek across Europe that began in Ireland. He recorded Grammy®-nominated Songs From A Parent To Child (1997). In 1998 Mr. Garfunkel became a cartoon singing/narrator moose for the popular PBS children’s television series Arthur. More recently, he released Everything Waits To Be Noticed (2002), joined by Maia Sharp and Buddy Mondlock. The trio followed up the release with a tour of the United States, Germany, Austria, Ireland and the United Kingdom, continuing into 2003.
