Annual Festive Tuba Christmas! Returns to the Kimmel Center for a Holiday Celebration on December 1
November 20, 2007

Kimmel Center Presents hosts its sixth annual Tuba Christmas! celebration on Saturday, December 1, 2007 at 1:30pm at the Commonwealth Plaza Stage, as part of the Free in the Plaza Series. With concerts taking place in over 200 cities across the country, this magical, musical event has become a beloved holiday tradition for many households. Regional tuba and euphonium players join together to perform classic carols free to the public and for all ages. Tinsel, mistletoe, and other seasonal ornaments will adorn local musicians' brass instruments, as music fills the Kimmel Center’s plaza with performances of "Silent Night," "Jingle Bells," "O Come All Ye Faithful," and many more.
Musicians interested in participating are encouraged to bring their decorated instrument/s and folding stand/lyre to Innovation Studio on the Kimmel Center’s lower mezzanine for registration from 9:30-11am on December 1. Rehearsal will follow from 11am-12:45pm, followed by the performance on the Kimmel Center’s Commonwealth Plaza stage at 1:30pm. Tuba Christmas! music will be available at registration and there will be a small registration fee. For further details, contact Tuba Christmas! coordinator and conductor Jay Krush at (215) 520-0818 or jaykrush@earthlink.net.

Tuba Christmas! was conceived in 1974 as a tribute to the late artist and educator William J. Bell, who was born on Christmas Day in 1902. It was first conducted in New York City’s Rockefeller Plaza Ice Rink on December 22, 1974. The tradition has grown exponentially over the past three decades, and today the concerts are presented in cities and towns throughout the world by thousands of spirited brass players.
