Pablo Ziegler Trio Performs New Tango at the Kimmel Center December 8
November 21, 2007

Latin Grammy® Award winning pianist Pablo Ziegler debuts with his Trio at the Kimmel Center performing new tango on Saturday, December 8, 2007 at 7:30pm in Perelman Theater. Ziegler first began performing with renowned tango composer Astor Piazzolla in 1978 –a decade long musical collaboration that influenced Ziegler’s musical aspirations to propel new tango to another level with jazz and classical elements. In 1990, he formed his own quartet for New Tango, and has traveled throughout the world, frequently collaborating with musical greats such as Paquito D’Rivera, Stefon Harris, David Sanchez, among others. Accompanied by guitarist Claudio Ragazzi and bandoneón player Héctor del Curto, the Pablo Ziegler Trio will perform selections from his two recent releases: Buenos Aires Report (2007), recorded live at the Bimhuis in Amsterdam; and, Tango and All That Jazz (2007).
An Artist Chat will take place pre-show in the Merck Arts Education Center with Tim Ribchester, University of Pennsylvania PhD Music History candidate, as he discusses Astor Piazzolla's style in relation to both art music and tango with former Piazolla pianist and featured Kimmel Center Presents artist, Pablo Ziegler. A pianist in his own rite, Ribchester has conducted research in Buenos Aires at the Academia Nacional de Tango, including intensive studies with their faculty in tango piano performance, history and analysis.
This concert is the tenth concert in the World & Pop Series scheduled for the Kimmel Center Presents 2007/2008 season.
