Multi-Grammy® Award Winner k.d. lang Performs Works from Newly Released Album Watershed at the Kimmel Center February 24
January 31, 2008

"A modern Sinatra, lang transcends even the finest work the authors offer."
"Few singers command such perfection of pitch. Her voice, at once beautiful and unadorned and softened with a veil of smoke, invariably hits the middle of a note and remains there…She balanced her commitment to the material with humor, projecting a twinkling merriment behind it all."
Musical icon k.d. lang performs works from newly released album Watershed at the Kimmel Center on Sunday, February 24, 2008 at 7:30pm in Verizon Hall. The Canadian singer-songwriter’s illustrious twenty year career has spanned country, torch, and pop soundscapes; shimmering with soft vocals that echo the human experience of intimacy and longing in Grammy® Award-winning hits like "Constant Craving." Watershed is lang’s first self-produced album, and showcases her artistic evolution in a range of works from the up-tempo bluegrass tune "Jealous Dog" to the lush, flamenco inspired harmonies of "I Dream of Spring" and bossa nova rhythms of "Upstream." Her performance will include an all new line-up of band members. Dustin O’Halloran of the indie pop duo Devics opens the concert with an evocative collection of classical piano compositions, as heard on Piano Solos Vol.1 and 2.
"Watershed is like a culmination of everything I’ve done," said k.d.lang, "there’s a little bit of jazz, a little country, a little of the Ingénue sound, a little Brazilian touch. It really feels like the way I hear music, this mash-up of genres, and I think it reflects all the styles that have preceded this in my catalogue."
This concert is the nineteenth concert in the World & Pop Series scheduled for the Kimmel Center Presents 2007/2008 season. The next concert in the series will be Pink Martini on Tuesday, March 4, 2008 at 8pm in Verizon Hall.

She has been awarded the Canadian Juno Award for Most Promising Female Vocalist in 1985, and received Grammy® Awards for the 1987 hit "Crying" with Roy Orbison and for her 1989 album, Absolute Torch and Twang. In 1992, "Constant Craving" from Ingénue became a worldwide smash hit to much critical acclaim, for which lang was awarded the Grammy® for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. In 2003, she won her fourth Grammy® for her collaboration with Tony Bennett, A Wonderful World. Lang’s 2004 release, Hymns of the 49th Parallel, pays homage to fellow Canadian artists including Joni Mitchell, Leonard Cohen and Neil Young.
